Why just Walmart? Why aren't you outraged about other low wage businesses also? Is it because progressives have put out the word to hate Walmart? Such sheeple....

So then it's all well and good that Walmart employees are on food stamps and other forms of welfare?

The lesson here: "Big Gubmint" is A-okay if it serves the interests of large corporations.

Exactly. Lefties shriek that we can't make the poor little children suffer, and we MUST keep welfare and food stamps and Medicaid, or those children will DIE.

As for the LIE being told that taxpayers "subsidize" employees, it's pretty typical that the Walmart haters, who pretend to be so intelligent, don't know the definition of that word:

SUBSIDIZE: Support (an organization or activity) financially.

When they can prove that taxpayer dollars went directly to Walmart, they can talk. Until then, they need to shut up with the lies. And until they also express outrage that taxpayers are subsidizing illegals, they can shut up with the hypocrisy.

You are subsidizing wal-mart because that is the true effect of social welfare programs. This is a major reason why we need to eliminate most social welfare programs. How can we blame wal-mart for using the government system that was put in place?

Also, from the article you posted it had a nice little bit of information pertaining to the calculation of poverty.

"We're seeing a very slow recovery [nationally], with increases in poverty among workers due to more new jobs which are low-wage," University of Wisconsin-Madison economist Timothy Smeeding told the Associated Press. "As a whole, the safety net is holding many people up, while California is struggling more because it's relatively harder there to qualify for food stamps and other benefits."
The Golden State's jump between the supplemental and conventional measures was the largest swing of any state, and the Sacramento Bee attributes it to California's high cost of living.

Small business would fill in the void and profit. Those profits Wal-Mart (the corporation, not employees or community) was seeing would be split up amongst the Communities.

It doesn't directly, but does through its corporate policy/philosophy.

It's both IMO. Corporations have to become more responsible. Otherwise all the profits go to the top and are not recirculated into the economy.

Our economy is strongest when consumers have spending power. When wages are low relative to prices, there's less consumer spending and the entire business community is affected.

I don't like it. My 401k and IRA can't invest in small businesses.

The employees should just quit and go get another job. After all, California is booming. Right?

Wal-Mart has the profits to pay its employees more. Small businesses do not. They are not complaining about the pay rate per say, but the pay rate in comparison to their profit margins.

It's not like they don't have enough money. Hell, the HEIRS, have more wealth then the bottom 47% of the country combined!!
