I think Cali needs to step up and be the test case. Pass a law, demand businesses pay a wage that will keep all their employees off the government dole and lets see what happens.

I will gladly support such policy in Cali and if it works, everywhere else.

Walmart is workfare.

This may be work in America in the near future. Benefit recipients keep a job and benefits.

Why doesn't the government lessen the benefits offered so that wal-mart has to pay more to bring in employees? Don't punish a company for the government's stupidity.

Why do states with less tax and regulation burdens have just as many or a higher percentage of their populations as poor?

Why am I subsidizing Walmart employees when the company is making billions in profits?

Wal-Mart Stores - Fortune 500 - WMT
They made $15.7 BILLION in profits.

So tell me, why am I subsidizing a company that made $15.7 BILLION in profit in 2011?

There are cart tracks and footprints on the clothes where they were on the floor and hung back up. You can never find an employee and you typically need their help because the store is one big disaster zone.

I'd rather pay more money to go to a decent store.
You can put a Nordy rack next to the WM and if it's in the "hood" it will suffer the same fate. It's the clients not the store.

How does that compare to the money that Walmart pumps into the state? And why just Walmart? Don't other jobs that pay the same way "cost" the state also?

Those evil, evil job creators.....

Silly, silly little Class Warfare-ist. Firstly, no government can DEMAND what wage a business pays, unless they raise minimum wage. So, CA should try it and see what happens. Then Walmart will lay off tons of folks to make up for the lost revenue, and MORE people will be on assistance and cost the state MORE money. Will that be blamed on Walmart too?
