Actually, it's very illuminating if you go and see the attitudes towards gun ownership on these forums.

To my knowledge, for all practical purposes, it is illegal to carry a concealed weapon in Canada.

At least that's what wikipedia says:
Concealed carry - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The rate of firearm homicides is 0.5 per 100,000 population in Canada, and 3.6 per 100,000 in the U.S.

List of countries by firearm-related death rate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Many Americans apparently love their guns, I've never seen that in Canada.

Americans love liberty - and the Second Amendment is the guarantor of liberty.

Without it, the rest of the constitution is virtually meaningless.

They also pick up after their dog's---everyone does, not just some people. And they are very big on recycling. Most people bring their own bags to the grocery store; at most stores you have to pay for plastic bags.

I found dating in the US nerve wracking. The guy could be legally carrying. In Canada or the UK, it wouldn't occur to me that my date might be carrying. I was quite literally gun shy.

We don't sort recycling here. We chuck plastics, paper and metal into our blue boxes and it gets picked up by the recycling truck the same day the garbage goes out. We also have a separate truck for organics. But I don't use the organics truck because I like to compost rather than pay for fresh soil for my garden.

Here's a good example of your gun culture Harrier:

A direct quote from these forums, concerning the Newtown parents:

"Most certainly NOT.... Just because the system failed them is no reason that they should have or receive special weight in making LAW!

The system failed them not the gun...... The gun free zone failed them, not the gun. Why can't you PC people ever place the blame where it lies in the fakery and witch craft that the PC made?

That same system failed me and mine 3 times.. The PC get no more compromise from me I will remain armed at ALL Times. I am right now just sitting here... I always am.

No HELL NO those poor people are in grief but they get no more say than anyone else. My RIGHTS are not for them to give period.

If anything they should REJECT any notions of any more stupid gun free zones.."

Sitting, watching TV....armed.

Most Canadians I know do not hate guns or want them banned, most I know like guns.
Whenever there is a family reunion and relatives from Canada show up they like to shoot, mostly pistols though since they cant own those in Canada too many restrictions, that and we fish and ride horses.

The last family reunion last summer they mentioned something about the Canadian Long Arm Registry being repealed.

Of course Canadians like guns. That's not the question. Carrying guns around in your glove box or in your pocket or purse? No, I can't say I like that idea or most of the Canadians I know wanting to see that in Canada.

The Long Arm Registry was a dumbarse idea. It was a cash crop idea to make money off hunters and farmers.
