Someone is in your backyard, so what? If you feel threatened by that then call the police to check it out.

In this case the perp had to jump a fence to get on the property.

So what.... he trespassed. What is the big deal if he hadn't even done anything wrong except that. You tell him to get off of your property if you are afraid, but you don't shoot him.

sort of, but unfortunately the community has redefined self defense considerably. 50 years ago it was when someone - a violent or threatening person menaced you. if they were in your home by force it was reasonable to assume they were a threat. you were not required to determine on the street or in the home to what degree they were armed. now it means if you can read the serial numbers on the gun when they fire it at you its self defense otherwise u r a murderer, end of story. . also it is sad to say the race of the attacker and defender is a major consideration as to who is guilty of what. civil rights movement was supposed to put an end to color based justice. it didnt it just turned the tables.
it used to be shooting burglars and home invaders and muggers was ok. now we must determine their ago race and if they are armed and to what degree before the law of self defense can be invoked.
