Looks like there are a whole slew of countries where the populace is happier than in the US.
Yet I'm told I should be jealous that I'm not American.
you don't live in north america? you obviously aren't happier than the US my little darling. if you were, you wouldn't be so obsessed with this country, and our politics. you'd be watching terrance and phillip like everyone else in canada.
Which way to happy? Geographically speaking, it's the route to Hawaii, Maine or one of the clusters of blissful cities in California and Colorado. You know... those horribly blue places where those miserable liberals are supposed to live, and where everything is supposed to be all screwed up.
talk about your all time biggest backfires. this map shows us, without a doubt, that if you want happiness, go to the white places. diversity=misery. hawaii is not white, but it's filled up with the same kinds of people. more proof that diversity is the ultimate in failed experiments.
Odd, those maps contradict each other. On one map Maine for instance is among the happiest states, on the other it is just mediocre
I don't really think much of those happiness ratings. Culture is quite important in terms of expectations and honesty. When you grow up humble, you will be much happier about a mediocre life than someone used to or hoping for wealth. Thus income and GDP are obviously not so important according to those rankings, else Luxembourg would be among the happiest.
Not so sure whether there is a political connection between happiness and being liberal. Maybe liberal people spend simply less time being angry about progressive developments, which despite occasional setbacks are the future.
I am very happy living in a community surrounded by mountain scenery and ocean. Weather unbelievable, and beauty of this area.
I live in a resort type community, it is very lovely. However i also believe you are happy by the company you hang out with. Most of the people i know in this area, you would not think, but are very friendly, compassionate, and giving people, that is what i love. Don't like stuffy people and my neighbors are not like this. Very giving and give so often to those less fortunate and give to many many charities. They don't have too, but they do.
What i love is that we genuinely care about each others children in this area, whether our children are grown up or not. We have party's block party's for the children who have birthday partys, and watch out for each others children. Although this is a very good area, you have to watch people coming in from other areas. We have pizza partys, from the backyards of neighbors who have huge pizza ovens, a lot of fun, kids love it. They get to make their own persoanl pizzas.
I believe the people you associate yourself, lend a helping hand in ones happiness. Sure on this forum we all appear a certain thickheaded way, this forum has a way of doing this.
But i honestly love meeting people new people, and new life expereinces. I lived in Anaheim, and was not happy. Yorba Linda, and i loved it. I also liked living in Redondo Beach. It was a fun time and a different time. Lived in rental homes for quite a while while remodeling them, in the inland empire. Although i loved the home and what we did to them, the people not so much. And here is the thing, that was a middle class area, and the people were clicky. Not that friendly, and stay to them self. Hispanics stayed and made friends with each other, sorry the way it was.
The area i live in, maybe status has something to do with it or not, i don't beleive in that, an area or a home can't make someone happy, if they truly are not. Being positive which i am except when on this forum. Gees this forum gets my goat.
I don't care what the map shows, people are who they are, if most are happy from within, and have a positive sunshine energy about them, a essence that is light, they are happy people
I do beleive however the people you surround yourself with, and an area you live in has a lot to do whether your happy or not. But i have know some people live in areas not that great, but made the best of it, and always had a smile on their face. I admire them, and there persistence, to do better for their family.
I traveled all over this Country plenty of times. Except for Alaska and Montana. For the most part you can always find happy people, and there will always be those who for the life of them, can't and won't find happiness. They say humor is the way to the soul, for when you smile and are happy, it radiates from within.
And i have to say for the most part most of the people i know are eastern part of the Country transplants, or are from the South. I know few californians born here, i actually like.
The most fun for us is whale watching and dolphin watching, that makes me so happy, i love the sea and all of its glory.

Hmm! Reading between the lines you're part of the "beautiful people" with a dual-income household and more than just the median income living in a "resort type" area and living the good life. What's not to be happy about.
I can relate. I started life in La Jolla and then spent most of my childhood being raised on an island in Newport Beach. But amazingly enough, now I'm right where I want to be in the tri-lakes region of the Ozarks replete with four actual seasons each year.
Here's my point. True happiness with where you are is rarely dependent upon income and social status. It's what satisfies the soul and that is very individual. Here I am in the hills an' hollers and happy as a clam. You couldn't drag me back to California. By the same token, you probably couldn't be dragged out of it.
How in the heck did MT, UT, NH and VT even come close to the top given their woeful lack of diversity?
The "finding" is based on a Tweet study with a weighted scale for certain words that were used.
In other words, it's pretty much useless.
It would be like using porn hits to see who is having the most sex...
