So why didn't that millionaire choose not to wait and get the procedure done in Canada where they have better health care?

I live where it exists and I can't possibly understand why anyone would want to do it any other way. And that's with conservatives dropping the ball for decades here, too.

My premiums come to about 2000/year. why would I want to spend an extra 5500 to 7000 for the same coverage basically. So what if I have to pay a deductible. Most years I don't have to pay anything but premiums so I'll only be paying my 2000/year. Even with the issues I had this year with a heart attack and dialysis the most I'm paying this year is about 6000 incl my deductibles.

Now if our government would cut some spending, such as aid and weapons to country's that hate us and stop offering welfare for illegals perhaps that money could go into a version of universal health care such as a raise in income requirements for medicaid. As of now there is medicaid for the poor so the poor should not be whining. I was poor when I had cancer 15 years ago and with a little bit of WORK (something many don't want to do), the papers were filled out and all my operations at a first rate hospital and a years worth of chemo from a first rate cancer center was covered. It just took a little searching and a few phone calls. Not that hard.
I moved back to Ontario last year from California. When I add my taxes in California & my healthcare premiums together, my take home is more now than it was then. Sorry the myth of us paying more in taxes is just that a myth.

I like my Mercedes, worked hard to get it, and think that Fred can ride a bike if he needs to get to work.
What you are describing is a socialised healthcare system, not universal healthcare. Canada has a universal healthcare system (aka single payer). The government has no say in your treatment - that is strictly up to your doctor. The only role the government has is to pay the bill.

The only thing I can say about UHC is this: Make enough money to provide HC for yourself and yours and let everyone else go see a Walmart-quality doctor when they need to as that is all you'll get depending on UHC alone.

Even worse, you won't see a doctor one-on-one in a private room to discuss your health issues, they intend to handle the doctor shortage by herding a group of sick people together in the same room where one doctor comes through and speaks with each patient openly about their condition and then diagnose, treat, give instructions. Sounds rather off-hand and cheap, but we're all in this together huddled like rats liking our shrinking options and higher mandates with Mother Government caressing us all with her love now. Unless one is rich or connected... then you get to retain a bit of humanity.

Enjoy!

OMG what cr@p. WalMart type doctor? Hrm, mine is incredibly well educated, is involved in the research community and has presented at conferences and published (all while running a full-time practice). Every patient he sees is 1:1, as is the case with EVERY doctor I have ever encountered. Considering I am visiting a lot of people in the hospital (my church is in a retirement community), I can state categorically that you are spouting nothing but lies.

They don't do that here. They don't do that in any country that I know of. Why would they do that in the US? Did you read about it on some rightie fear-mongering site?

Uh, that tired old chestnut again. The exact same procedure is available in Canada. He could have done it here, but preferred to recuperate in Florida in the dead of winter. He has a condo there. Would I have it done in Florida as opposed to toughing it out in a brutal and bitter Newfoundland winter if I was a millionaire? You betcha!
It doesn't mean he would have had an inferior procedure here, and if it was urgent, he wouldn't have to wait.

When your barber's neighbour's son-in-law's mechanic passed that little story down to you, he didn't mention that little tidbit, did he?
Or did you hear it on FOX?

How do you know? You claim to not understand what the term means. Therefore, you cannot determine whether or not it is covered without first understanding what it is.
