The bakery also faces a $50,000 dollar fine. Way to go in shutting down a small business and destroying their ability to put food on the table.
You won. Be happy. Celebrate and enjoy your victory. These are heady times for the homosexual.
That is the only article that mentions a lawsuit. I am searching for another that even mentions a lawsuit. So far none have. I think that the journalist might have mis-spoke.
I take the bakers at their word. They believe marriage is a religious institution ordained by god between a woman and man. They don't want to partake in any way in a homosexual wedding. I take their word that they don't discriminate in other ways against gays and yes, even had gay people in their lives.
This isn't a 'lifestyle' issue as much as it's an 'event' issue.
They closed their shop.
The state is investigating them and they could end up with a hefty fine/jail time.
The couple is suing them in court but the amount was not disclosed.
The gay couple won. There's nothing more to argue.
Melissa won't be making those cupcakes and supporting their family for much longer.
Now go find the next bakery, photographer, caterer, hosting center to purge from the face of the earth.
I see you are blaming other people for their failed business.
In the future this is exactly what will happen. You'll get the cake along with a "surprise". You don't mess with those who prepare food.
How old are you? A surprise? And they could be visited by the Health department for that surprise as well as being sued for damages. Also, don't forget the bad reviews that would come from that surprise.
Well with all the lawsuits and filings around the country by gay people being refused marriage services New Hampshire is introducing a bill regarding refusal of services for religious beliefs.
The LGBT groups have gone up against everyone and are now at the church steps so to speak.
NH bill would allow refusal of services to gay couples » Latest News » EagleTribune.com, North Andover, MA
Don't want to provide wedding services to gay couples?
A bill before the Legislature would let people refuse services for religious or conscience reasons.
"We are concerned about clergy having to provide ceremonies against their belief," said Rep. Frank Sapareto, R-Derry, a bill co-sponsor.
..
The bill would put an exemption in state marriage law. The proposed text says no person, including a business owner or employee, should be required to provide services, accommodations, advantages, facilities, goods or privileges for wedding services in "violation of the person's conscience or religious faith."
Apparently, they will be operating the bakery out of their home.
Does anyone know if the same anti-discrimination laws apply to someone working out of their home?
Not sure it the rules apply there but I do know that there are rules about operating a business out of a home and districting that often does not allow it.
I think they got themselves into hot water finacially and it has nothing to do with the gay marriage cake issue.
