ask Costco if paying a decent wage and treating employees well, despite having low skill workers is hurting them.

They are not forced to do it, the owner settled for a little less profit margin to pay his employees more.

to all those who are always for freedom to choose what's best (but apparently not if you're a woman) - business owners can go open up shop elsewhere.

I hear this over and over. People refusing to deal with reality, and stuck in "they were meant for"

No. they're not "meant for" anything. They're a job. And they are for anyone who can do them, more and more thats everyone as people are in fact desperate to work. Please deal with reality, not what you think it should be.

Well that is true; it was meant only for teens when I grew up and started working. I got 1.65 when I started; the miminum. But I am fine with local voters deciding. That is now it should be across the nation ;vote by local voters. It is better tho if those voters pay the cost also.

Min wage FF jobs have the highest turnover of any job.
6 months is the average time a person works in a min wage job before leaving.

Desperate people don't job hop from one FF place to another all at min wage.

Likewise, the International Franchise Association has sued to block implementation of the law, arguing that nobody “in their right mind†would become a franchisee in Seattle. Yet Togo’s sandwiches, a franchise chain, is expanding into Seattle, saying the $15 wage isn’t a deterrent.

And a spokesman for Weyerhaeuser, the venerable wood and paper company, says the $15 wage didn’t factor into its decision, announced last month, to move its headquarters and 800 employees to Seattle from outside Tacoma.

...Before the wage took effect, SeaTac *parking-lot operator MasterPark said it might respond by replacing some workers with automation. Instead, MasterPark implemented a 99-cent-per-day “Living Wage Surcharge.†The company’s managing partner told the Seattle Times that layoffs in favor of automation would be “foolish†and that his employees are “happy campers.â€

SeaTac-based Alaska Airlines, likewise, spent heavily to defeat the minimum wage, saying that it would harm competitiveness. Though the $15 wage for airport workers remains in court, Alaska Airlines, the dominant SeaTac carrier, apparently isn’t worried: Last month, the port authority moved forward with airport construction that could reach nearly $1 billion — to be paid for by the airlines.

Raising the minimum wage without raising havoc - The Washington Post

Looks like all that talk about businesses leaving Tukwila because of the increase in the minimum wage was just bullsh*t.

Gee what a surprise (NOT).

Ken

LOL that Milbank piece should have had 'zippity doo dah' as background music. What a piece of junk journalism. The $15 minimum wage was thrown out by a judge on jurisdictional grounds.
Washington state judge excludes airport from SeaTac's $15 minimum wage | Reuters

It is on appeal, but has yet to take effect in SeaTac airport, which was the main target. No wonder it has not yet caused much disruption. It does apply in the town of SeaTac, in which the airport lies. It's a town of about 22,000 people. All is not sweetness and light in SeaTac, however.
SeaTac workers

Dana Milbank: idiot.

"high standard of living"? Are you insane?

San Francisco is hell on earth unless you are incredibly rich. Everyone else, suffers big time, deprivation and want are rampant.

It is unaffordable because the standard of living is high. The post you were responding to is correct.

Your post is ignorant garbage. Clearly you know NOTHING about SeaTac. Well, I used to live 1 mile outside of SeaTac and I KNOW SeaTac. SeaTac is MORE than JUST THE AIRPORT. The airport IS the largest employer but there are LOTS of hotels and businesses built around the airport.

ALL of those folks mentioned in the Milbank article specifically said they would LAY PEOPLE OFF it they had to raise the minimum wage and NONE of them did so - NONE - even though they SAID THEY WOULD.
Why is that?
Why didn't they lay people off the way they said they would have to?
Mainly because that argument was bullsh*t to begin with. As long as there is money to be made in SeaTac folks will pay what they have to to have workers for their businesses there - and there is PLENTY of money to be made in SeaTac.

As far as your "workers are not happy" article goes - I love how the author of the blog just makes these statements without specifically identifying the person who supposedly made them (unlike that "idiot" Milbank - as you put it - who had the journalistic integrity to IDENTIFY sources). As far as anyone can tell, the author of YOUR linked article could just have made all those statements up. Apparently you seem to think that someone is an "idiot" because they identify their source and are honest and accurate. Well, you may think it's "idiotic" to be honest and accurate and identify your sources, but I don't. Apparently however, you just prefer stories with ZERO evidence to back up the claims.
