This is a perfect example of how the Obama ilk view freedom. These children have proven that freedom is being free to choose what you think is best for you, not being forced to select from a short list of choices decided upon by statists like Michele Obama.
So you are saying before 2009, public schools had gourmet chefs in the back ready to cook what ever kids ordered instead of an already set menu ?
When I attended public school in the late 60-70's, there were no school lunch programs at the elementary school level, in Chicago. Yet people my age recall such programs within suburban elementary schools.

But it does amaze me how we just take it for granted in the US that millions of people either can't or don't or won't feed their own children. It just is what it is, and few seem to even question it.
They don't question it because your conclusion lacks common sense. Availability of school lunch does not mean American parents can't, or won't feed their kids. It simply means that a meal is available at school.
It's a tad ironic that some here seek to limit food choices of adult SNAP recipients, yet when a school chooses to cut some of the junk, it's a violation of freedom to choose.
Most kids will choose a Happy Meal over a salad.
Most kids who are seriously hungry will eat what's put in front of them.
