So you are saying before 2009, public schools had gourmet chefs in the back ready to cook what ever kids ordered instead of an already set menu ?

It's bizarre.

Yet it happens in most of the developed world. Some nations do not charge any student/family for lunch.

School meal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

When I attended public school in the late 60-70's, there were no school lunch programs at the elementary school level, in Chicago. Yet people my age recall such programs within suburban elementary schools.

They don't question it because your conclusion lacks common sense. Availability of school lunch does not mean American parents can't, or won't feed their kids. It simply means that a meal is available at school.

It's a tad ironic that some here seek to limit food choices of adult SNAP recipients, yet when a school chooses to cut some of the junk, it's a violation of freedom to choose.

Most kids will choose a Happy Meal over a salad.

Most kids who are seriously hungry will eat what's put in front of them.
