I think they just get locked into a mindset....the figure in their head is the minimum wage.
That sounds like an excuse, if your employer felt you were worth more than minimum wage, they would have paid you more. Without minimum wage, they would have probably paid you less.

You asked a question......I answered it as best I could.
It was just a little job...no big deal....we all made the same money.....I also was young and did not know how to ask.
My employer did think I was a better worker......she gave me more responsibility........just not more money.
That was OK.....I learned I did not want to work for others.......BIG lesson in life......it worked out very well.
I was simply saying what you thought you were worth wasn't the same as what your employer thought you were worth. Minimum wage prevents employers from paying people below a minimum to protect workers.
It's great that they're trying to do this but what are they going to do when the Cascadia quake hits? The city is toast after that. It'll be a hell of a lot worse than San Francisco in 1906.
