Expanded the way of life they left? What do you mean? We have accepted immigrants since day one, and I can't think of one instance where immigrants "brought" poverty with them. Such a thought is ignorant. The causes of poverty are many, but immigration is not one. Immigrants are mostly fleeing poverty. They are here to work and pull themselves up.

If I am ignorant than perhaps I am keeping good company. Read Mexifornia by Victor Davis Hanson. He and I grew up in the San Joaquin Valley and have seen the small towns change for the worse. I am sure you are going to call me a racist but the poverty has exploded in these areas. Whatever the reason, they are not "pulling themselves up".

Better tread easy, green mariner claims to be a slave back then, even though he's 25 or so now.
He's walked the walk.

Really. Whenever I bring up the historical fact that pre-1960s America for Blacks was quite horrible, the response is that of sarcasm and snide remarks.

I never claimed to have been a slave. I said if I as a Black man, were living in the America of long ago(1950s and before), it would have been horrible for me. That is a historical fact. That is basic US History 101.
