I love Charlie, but if Espaillat wins, so be it. Rangel's been there since 1971. He just wanted to last one more two-year term, but I guess he might be retiring early.

Yeah, I've got no issues with Rangel either. I mean, he's not from my district so...you know.

He's been great I'm sure for the people of that district, but with Democrats being out of power in the House anyway, his seniority hardly makes a difference for them anymore. His constituents may as well move on to new blood.

He should just retire and go out the right way instead of with an election loss. Saying that he has "Puerto Rican blood" seems kinda silly for someone of his stature. If that's the route he's taking, he's probably toast already.

I mean, who couldn't guess that he has Latin heritage? His last name is Rangel for crying out loud! Doesn't get anymore Spanish than that.

It's just kinda sad to see a long time congressman, and a Korean War hero go out begging for a meaningless congressional seat.

He is also a tax evader, while being on the Ways and Means committee.
He also drives a new Cadillac every year on the tax payers dime.
He is a shining example of a career politician who feels entitled and what is so very wrong in DC today.

The districts were actually drawn by the courts after the Assembly Democrats and Senate Republicans couldn't agree on the map.

A little over 70% of Rangel's district remained the same, the rest was basically split between parts of Serano and Engel's district. The Bronx portion is more western Bronx based than southern Bronx. Serano's district stayed Bronx based, just shifted a little. Engel's district moved a bit further north and took in more of Westchester.

I'm a tax evader too....to the extent that I can get away with it. I don't report anything that I earn that doesn't show up on a payroll statement.

I just made for example, 1300 bucks for a job that I helped a friend do (he does excavation). Think I'm reporting it to the IRS?

Yeah...ok. Don't hold your breath. We're ALL tax evaders. And people with a lot more money and power evade a hell of a lot more taxes than Rangel ever did.

As for his Cadillac...I don't care.

As far as I'm concerned, yeah, he's an entitled, spoiled politician that wants to hang on to something that he's not entitled to and should retire from. But so what? How does that make him any different than his other 400 plus colleagues?

You guys talk as if he's the only huckster in the bunch.

I mean, at least Rangel earned his sense of entitlement on a hard ass Korean battlefield. That's more than most of his colleagues can say.

All that aside...It's time for him to go. I'll acknowledge that much. But I'm not gonna run him down.

No, we ALL are not tax cheats, dd, who take advantage of other taxpayers. You even seem proud to be taking advantage of us and breaking the law. smh.

In some ways Mr. Rangel represents the best of American politicians, and in other ways the worst.

Whatever good the man has done for the nation and or his constituency (and there has been much) the fact remains he is corrupt and bad in ways that only come with holding elected office far too long and becoming much to comfortable in that place.

Every other "elder" senator or Congressman it seems is going of their own accord. Even Mr. Dingle has called it quits. That Charles Rangel continues is a monument to either stubbornness or delusion. Perhaps the man wanted to stay on and or around because Obama won the WH and he wishes to see that thing out (first AA POTUS and all), but still facts are facts. That Harlem district is quickly changing demographics. If immigration reform that Mr. Rangel's party is pushing hard for ever comes to pass that will only hasten the process bringing vast new numbers of Hispanic/Latino potential voters.
