I'm more of an independent when it comes to politics.
Although I do not like to use labels, when it comes down to those that play sports at the college and pro level, Baseball is the only major sport that leans right. Sports is a macrocosm of the general population, so what that means is that a large percentage of white athletes lean to the right, but an even larger percentage of black athletes lean to the left. Football and Basketball leans left. Will not say much about Hockey as Americans only account for about 23 percent of the league, but what I can tell you is that Hockey players in general are pretty Liberal on social issues. Hockey players have been very pro-active in supporting gay rights for example. I will also add that the average age of a pro athlete is 28 years old and they pretty much think and share the same opinions of the average everyday non-athletic 28 year old.

No one has to like any sport and even I am not really a Soccer fan. But like I said before, anyone the downs the athleticism of any sport was never much of an athlete themselves, and are trying to make it political.

Quite the paranoid theory, reading a little too much into fans of a sport aren't we?

By the way we are still anxiously awaiting you definition of a sport and an athlete.

Toothless brain damaged skaters have political opinions? Good thing they are 77% un-American.

I don't get the politicization of this. I'm almost an extremist I'm so right-wing, but I played and love watching soccer. I also played hockey (since age 4 - I'm from Minnesota) and that's probably more liberal considering it's a Canadian sport.

Really, what's that about? I mean, growing up in the Twin Cities I do somewhat agree that libs will be more likely to send their kid to play soccer than football (American), but at the same time I am proof that's not the bottom line. Maybe I'm an aberration.

Do people here think NFL and NBA (mostly black leagues - leagues plagued with thug garbage) are NOT liberal????

Stop it with this silliness.

I also have to say that I find NFL fans (fat, couch potato slobs) seem to be the most pathetic, uneducated POS America has to offer. Ever witnessed Oakland Raiders fans? A sad, sad sight in my eyes.

Ha! In Ms. Coulter's screed, she complains there's no "MVP" in soccer. However, Tim Howard was chosen "Man of the Match" yesterday. Even in defeat, Tim Howard was the man of the match for US - CBSSports.com More proof she's just full of it.

Soccer was brought to the US by self-loathing liberal freaks who detest everything about the US, including its sports. These are the anti-American Anglophiles and Europhiles who want to destroy the US by making into a mirror image of Europe and its quasi-communist/socialist ways. These liberal freaks would never play a real American sport, so they imported a children's game from socialist Europe. Soccer is a game introduced by anti-Americans for anti-Americans.

I only follow MLS, I will watch soccer from other leagues but I don't follow or root for any other teams besides the Portland Timbers.

Ms. Coulter and Glitch are entitled to their opinions. I am entitled to mine and to laugh at their absurdities.

FWIW - America is more then just the USA. It includes all the countries from Canada to Argentina. many of those consider Soccer to be a major sport.

I just told you where I stand on the political scale. I'm probably farther 'right' than you are. I can almost guarantee it. I'm off the charts 'right'.

The problem America has - a major problem - is we care more about sports than reality - the bastardization of our country and culture, our imperialism, the moral decay. This is just like Rome before that rotted from the inside out. Ever hit you that the "Sports" section is almost the biggest in your local paper even though it has grown smaller and smaller over the last couple decades?

So as far as I'm concerned - athletic as I am (I've played six sports growing up and still play several regularly) - at the end of the day Ann's opinion on this is rather moot, even though it's silly in the grand scheme to begin with.

If you care that much about this issue to dedicate numerous posts to it - to criticize it - maybe you should look in the mirror.
