...because too many other things were tacked onto that bill.
I agree that things were tacked on that should not have been, but that's not why Mr. Obama wanted to veto.
"Mr. Obama himself called for changes to the 2008 law earlier this month, but has since backed away under intense political pressure from immigrant rights groups.

I see a solution to the problem here. We need to create a new government program; instead of cash for clunkers, it's "cash for CRTs." The government will pay you $300 for each working old TV you bring in to the newly constructed TV collection facility. (assuming it's not flat screen) These old TVs will be shipped to regional TV storage warehouses. This way, whenever the gov't outfits one of their facilities with TVs, they can use old TVs from their stockpile, and people won't get all mad that the government is using luxurious "flat-screen" TVs.
The senate has gone home. This is nothing but political theatre. It never ceases to amaze me at how stupid Republicans seem to think their voters are - and even more so that they are right.

Anything they did would have been for political theatre because the Senate would not have passed it and Mr. Obama would have vetoed it. The whole situation in DC is nothing but theater, and we, the people, are getting screwed in the process. The whole blaming of the 2008 law is political theater. There are many thousands that have crossed the border where there is no question the law does not apply and they are not being sent home. The executive branch has shown no inclination to "faithfully execute the laws" and he is supported by a complicit legislative branch. The majority of the public looks at this and points fingers one way or another and the trains keep rolling to the border. We need to stop buying into the partisan garbage and demand that this gets solved.
Nicaragua is the second poorest country in the Western hemisphere and poorer than neighboring Honduras and El Salvador, but yet they are barely represented int eh number of immigrants making their way to the US. The difference is Nicaragua is safe with little fear of violence and crime for citizens.
whoa, so all the legislative posts from this morning got jumbled into here. That makes it almost impossible to pick up the conversations again.
