I am honestly surprised - it is really very common knowledge
Well I do have a whole season of MASH under my belt and never knew that army physicians carried weapons. Don't get me wrong; I still admire what they do.
The venom and utter hatred being spewed toward our military by the OP is very reminiscent of the early 1970s when US troops returning from Vietnam were pelted with fecal matter and spat upon by unwashed ignorant scum masquerading as human-beings. I suppose there will always be those who truly resent the honorable and the courageous, because it is everything they are not. We saw that in our last President, and again in the Democrat presidential candidate in 2004. So it should not be surprising to see those of that ilk disgorging their vile statements of contempt and loathing for what they could never hope to be. Pity him if you must, but he is not worthy of your scorn.

When a man's an empty kettle
He should be on his mettle
and yet you're torn apart
Just because I'm presumin'
that you could be kind of human
If you only had a heart
Here's MY conundrum; I can't understand being completely opposed to an illegal war yet sympathizing with those who carry it out. Such a stance would indicate schizophrenia!. It's like saying "I oppose pornography but lets support our porn actors!".
I think the pornography analogy is a poor one. I think this situation is a lot more complicated, and that's probably the primary reason why I'm not willing to just demean everyone who's in Iraq right now. I think I'd actually have to be there and see what's going on before I could begin to blame individual soldiers for it. And even then, I wouldn't have been in their shoes, so it's still iffy.
HMMM another individual who believes all soldiers are blood thirsty killing machines salivating at the prospect of rape and plunder. Its sad that someone who really doesn't have a clue feels so willing to spew their rhetoric. Its 1 of the many freedoms preserved by those blood thirsty killing machines. I my self don't agree with the war and I am a vet. That doesn't mean that I am unable to support those who serve.
No its not like a kids football game to me. You see I am a vet, I guess that makes me a has been blood thirsty killing machine. I support this war no more than I did Somalia, Croatia, or any number of fruitless UN missions that our troops were used for. I am against nation building of any kind. None of our business. Our troops are our business and they are us. They go where they are ordered to go. They have very little choice in the matter. For the OP who is convinced of their evil nature perhaps they should or could at least recognize that these killers have done an incredible job of minimizing collatoral damage. The fact that insurgents take delight in killing unarmed women and children does not reflect upon our troops. What does reflect upon our troops is that they for the most part have demonstrated the highest level of professionalism of any combat force in war ever.
Care to compare the deeds of the Soviet army while they occupied afghanistan?
Once again I am opposed to this war but can support our troops. I feel no regret and no shame for it either.

"Blood thirsty killing machines salivating at the prospect of rape and plunder!." Wow. What else can I say?. How you went from "Why I Find it Hard to Sympathize" to that only several years of intensive therapy and perhaps extensive medication can answer. I mean really.

I know I know, and 'we live in the greatest country in the world' and 'the enemy hates us for our freedoms' and 'make sure to leave Santa some cookies'. I wish the Bush administration would just record these platitudes once and for all and give us all the free CD. Not that I would listen to it but it would sure make a great place mat for the coffee mug.
Our troops have absolutely no formal training whatsoever as far as how to perform as long term occupiers in a foreign country. A country whose language we do not speak nor customs understand. Our troops were never trained in how to deal or interact with civilians in such a scenario. They're trained to KILL. Despite some fairly recent cosmetic attempts to provide them with PC courses to make our troops behave more civillythe fact is they have been assigned a role that was never meant to be.

You are wrong

Yep - you got one right.
If you would like, I could probably arrange for you to go to Iraq, as a civilian, volunteering with the American Red Cross or USO?
I have been over twice now - both at Christmas time, delivering Christmas Packages to the Troops - packages that were put together by volunteers - 1000's of volunteers - including many who strongly oppose this war. But, they want to let the troops know that we appreciate them, and their families back home.
So, you up for it? Want to go see what is really happening?
