State and county health departments and those on the front line could use those recommendations, or not.

Annual funding for the Hospital Preparedness Program was halved over the past decade as was the Public Health Emergency Program. Not a lot of interest in preparing for a historically remote virus.

In absence of federal funding, who is going to invest serious $ millions into research for a vaccination or cure of a remote virus when heart disease and stroke are the top global killers?

In absence of federal funding, how many state and county health departments took responsibility for their own education and preparedness? How many hospitals took it upon themselves to prepare for something that occasionally pops in remote villages deep in Africa, from time to time?

The very first case of Ebola arrived in the US on 8/2 and was treated at Emory. This hospital is one of 4 out of 5000+ hospitals in the US that is bio safety rated 4.
1. You will need to post a link that verifies your statements - we have an entire thread based on the Washington Post Fact finder that gave these "cuts in funding" claims 4 Pinnochios and called them "absurd".

2. Those 4 "hospitals" that have the BioSafety rating of 4 .... are 4 out of 15 in the entire World. They are Research 'hospitals' and include the CDC in Atlanta. It's worse than "absurd" to expect all 5,000+ USA hospitals to have this rating of 4 - or even a rating of 3.

Just for grins - Read the CDC Ebola Preparedness Guidelines - pdf file. Be sure and click on that 32 page "guideline" so you will have a clear understanding of the type of "Preparedness" the CDC sends out to Medical Facilities and Local/State Governments. This is truly a Federal Bureaucracy at it's 'finest'.

Here's the link they're all quoting...from the very left-leaning The Agenda Project -

The majority of the people in these three countries could never pay for a visa, let alone an airline ticket.
The higher the toll within these countries, the more likely masses of humanity will start migrating to other countries within Africa and spreading the virus. I can't begin to imagine the twists and turns this could take.

Thus the need to address it where is,as is, the source.

It's way too premature to call it a lost cause.

Governing by appeasing enemies is folly.

Appeasing a disease even more so.

Just as a matter of curiosity ... what is your Best Guess on how 2 Nurses in Dallas managed to be diagnosed positive for Ebola after caring for Duncan/Patient Zero? Director of CDC says "exchange of body fluids.

1. Did they kiss him?
2. Did they have sex with him?
3. Did they lick up his vomit?
4. Did they lick up his urine or snack on his feces?
5. Did they lick up his tears?
6. Are they Vampire Blood drinkers who ran amuck? (the only reasonable answer from this list.)

They wear gloves, they wear protective gowns and masks. 2 people who cared for him got Ebola.
How did they get it? There are complaints now that the "protective gowns" are not good enough, the booties are not good enough, the gloves are not good enough, the disposal units are not proper. None of that has anything to do with "an exchange of body fluids".

Some of the complaints come from the Nurses and Hospital staff -- some are "blame" comments from the CDC - what do all these folks (including the posters here) think the "direct pathway" is?

Well, I had one poster proclaim that I would "cry like a baby" if I 'got Ebola", while proclaiming that he is only 'afraid for my children', while he would face his fate like a man. A lot of evil has been performed by those claiming to be thinking only of their children.

I have had others attack me for suggesting that 'banning' flights was silly (I was, I believe, one of the first ones to suggest denying visas from the affected countries). It has been stated, mutliple times, that such flights do not exist, and that we (USA) cannot 'ban' flights originating in other countries.

I have seen others post that "Obama wants Ebola here".

I have seen people herein claim that the CDC has some hidden agenda, and is hiding information.

I have seen posters herein claim that it is all a deep plot: for what, I have yet to figure out.

I have seen posters start new threads, without number, claiming to have secret information about Ebola that is denied to others.

As for your claim that you have not heard of posters 'run screaming from their house'. Well, many of those posters spend all day here posting, and they would obviously not leave their house for any reason, much less running out where "Ebola" is supposedly rampant.

I am one who believes that Ebola must be stopped in those west African countries, using all of our resources. Think that 10,000 people infected in west Africa is a threat? Imagine 3 million.

Finally, I also agree about the hysteria. My local news (Fort Worth) devoted most of the newscast to that nurse simply being moved to another hospital: 20 minutes of live coverage of the ambulance driving through the street.

Duncans, the nurses, the people on the plane - none of really matters in the long run. Even if they track down all of Duncan's contacts and the nurses' contacts and clear them it doesn't matter. As long as travel to ebola land is free and wide open we just wait for the next Duncans to come along and start all over.

Perhaps, but 25% for September and higher odds for October...and he goes out in mid September and says that all the experts (false) agree that it is an extremely low chance (false) to get here.

I think that criticisms for distortions, lies, flip flops, etc is negligible at best from his own party that he doesn't even think twice about being disingenuous.

Could you at least link to those flights to 'Ebola land'? If I wanted to, say, fly to Liberia (non-stop), could I do so? And fly back?

Recall, Mr. Duncan flew to Belgium, then (if I recall) to Washington D.C., before landing at DFW.

As for 'start all over': to date, I believe four people have been diagnosed with Ebola within the boundaries of the United States.

I shall repeat my old joke I made up:

Person one: "What is the difference between the United States of America and a third-world African country"?

Person two: "I don't know".

Person one: "That is the problem"!
