The fact that folks here are arguing over how much sq. footage you have to live is kind of ridiculous no?
We're going off the track here, the point being made is the government taxing gasoline or other energy sources to force people into smaller cars and homes.
I don't care what you live in, whatever floats your boat.
The government wants to increase the gas tax, so that it comes closer to paying for roads, while the pain of doing so would be less, since gas prices are currently low. But some feel the gas tax shouldn't be raised, and roads continue to be subsidized to a greater extent, because an increased gas tax would adversely affect the people who depend on roads more.
While we are spending billions building roads in Afghanistan that we blew up. The government doesn't deserve another penny until they first start being responsible themselves and quit blowing things up and use that money here.
Strike two. Want to try again? Or are you doing this on purpose?
Liberals...More like strike zero...Here is where you mentioned "Actually my house is close to 4000 square feet" Next time be honest, that is impossible for a liberal though.

I never said that. I'll go with doing it on purpose as you can't really be that dense as to not go back and see for yourself.

I would assume the money spent to blow up and rebuild foreign roads comes from the defense budget. I agree that we should be spending a lot less (if anything) on this kind of thing. But that doesn't change the fact that the gas tax doesn't come close to paying for our roads. I understand that raising the gas tax, so that it comes closer to paying for roads, will add additional burden to some people who have become dependent on the automobile. But ultimately, they chose to live far away from public transit options, and shouldn't feel entitled to government subsidies to maintain their lifestyle, if they can't pay the additional gas tax.

The money is all in one big pool despite the "budgets". Cut defense.

No, it also adds a burden on those who have become dependent on eating also. We take in more than enough. The government deserves not a penny more until they address waste and fraud. (which would include the wars)

In actuality.. my living arrangements/vehicle are probably more relevant to the whole discussion than most. After all... living in a diesel pusher while working IN the oil and gas industry tax effects me more than most..... I'm stuck smack in the middle. Higher prices means more work... lower prices are easier on my purse.
WASHINGTON -- As gas prices nationwide continue to plummet, advocates for enhanced federal investment in transportation are sensing a rare political opening.
A hike in the federal gas tax -- so these advocates argue -- would have a smaller psychological impact at a time like this, when the cost of filling up is low. Congress should therefore raise the tax, for what would be the first time since 1993, in order to replenish the federal highway trust fund, which is set to run out of money around the end of May.
Advocates of raising the tax point to "a smaller pyschological impact" because prices are now low? More evidence that the left think we're all stupid and uninformed. Are Gruber and Sebelius behind this?
BTW, there's more than one "Republican" willing to push this. There are plenty of RINOs and RIWs (RINOs-in-waiting) ready to "reach across the aisle."
