Actually as far as the Interstates go they would be an integral part of the defense of this nation, not that I expect anyone to invade. That's why the official name is "Dwight D. Eisenhower National System of Interstate and Defense Highways".

There is certain things the government needs to be involved with and large public projects like the Interstate is one of them.

Seriously, why do you think giving congress money to waste is such a grand idea?
You're not donating anything, when you fuel your car there is road tax applied to that fuel that is used to pay for the road you are using. The more your drive the more you pay. Drive less, pay less. Don't drive and pay nothing.

I'd agree however we are facing a pretty big problem in this country, many of those bridges on the Interstate are past their lifespan. They need to be replaced. continuing to with the band aid approach is only going to cost us more in the long run.

If it is the US highway system whose responsibility is it? If it is a state road, who does it?

Bet you want to have private toll roads, where each owner can charge a rate to use that portion. And if he doesn't like something or someone or someplace, he can either refuse use of the road or charge higher tolls. Or he could assess homeowners and businesses a tax because they live on the stretch.

We should have a floating tax that keeps the retail price of gasoline at about $3.50. That's high enough to encourage conservation and generate needed revenue. If we expect consumers to buy high mileage cars and trucks we can't provide them with cheap gas. That doesn't work.

If they are engaged in interstate commerce it is.

Certainly the Feds can be duly involved with intrastate commerce and transportation. Interstate and other US highways. Trains, planes and automobiles.

Also major Dams, rivers, reservoirs and other utility infrastructure that crosses state lines or involves several states.

So here we have a guy who is complaining how we should pay for transportation, infrastructure and then says we need the tax because we dont want to borrow it etc etc. So we are in this mess and over spend and always are borrowing because we aren't taxed enough?

Let me know when your going to stop building bridges and roads in iraq. Let me know when your going to stop paying for illegal immigrants, obama's vacations and 2 million dollars to study the effects of moose ****. I am sure if you look at the federal budget and for once balance it, you might actually know the GAS tax is NOT the solution.

If this is a republican.. he is wearing the wrong suit and I believe his donkey suit is at the cleaners.
Of which he is probably billing us for,

Once again, what is wrong with a tax on mileage that can only be used on actual road costs?

What a horrible idea.
