Bingo...but this is where the Christians go back to their Old Testament roots.
But when you bring up some really bad stories of nihilistic behavior In the Old Testament, they then use the excuse that those texts are Jewish texts and have nothing do with the Christian faith.
They think they can have it both ways...mostly because few people call them out on it.
Matthew5:17"Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. 18"For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.…
People excusing those texts shouldn't really be doing that unless we can really pick and choose what's ok and just ignore the things we don't like.
The only well known Christian left winger I can think of is Chris Hedges. I think Christianity is inherently a left wing religion, yet in America the Right has basically taken over it.
Nah, some of us are out there. We're called Episcopalians. Some are Lutherans, or at least one branch of the Lutheran church. And some Methodists.
Of course, the fundamentalist Christians have proclaimed that we are not "real".

Kinda like making our own personal religion.
Thanks. You're actually helping me make my larger case.
So Jesus basically reiterated his dedication to his faith (Judaism) because after all, he WAS a Rabbinical scholar.
So what's this Christianity stuff all about? Because Jesus surely had nothing to do with its founding, did he.

You're wrong. Jesus closed the door to mixing politics and his message when he said "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's." Anyone on the left or the right claiming they own Christianity are wrong.
Frankly, I think it doesn't matter. Jesus was just one of many prophets back then, doing what he did was en vogue at that time. He was lucky enough he managed to find fans so that his babble survived.
Just like Judaism before Christianity, it is just a mix of all kinds of human views and ideas, taken from all kinds of older cultures. So I would not care too much what Jesus said or rather is supposed to have said. He was just a guy who liked to talk and enjoyed the attention. A lot of people today have much more meaningful things to say
Yes, actually, especially amongst African Americans, and Hispanics. A good percentage, if not a majority of them could fit under the category of religious, and left. After-all, Jesus was pretty much a socialist.
Today the situation is very different. Catholics are more benign and even progressive than protestants these days. Just look at zealous missionaries, they are for the most part not Catholics.
Since when was being anti-choice and anti-birth control considered progressive?
The policies of the catholic church are not benign, and are downright harmful and stupid.
And are particularly harmful to the poor who can least afford having unwanted children.
It is also harmful to society as a whole when these parents are forced to go on welfare
to support their unwanted children.
You could say the same thing about protestants. They are both equally stupid and backward religions.
