China never placed ICBMs 80 miles from our coast, nor were they implicated in the assassination of a US President. The Castro regime cut all ties with the US in the first place, and blew up many millions of investment dollars (not just mob money) in the process. The Castro's are/were a particularly nasty threat to the US. There's really no comparison to China, and to do so is far too simplistic.
With that said, I believe the best way to promote freedom and democracy is by example. If trade is normalized betwen the US and Cuba, it might just be the fastest way to put an end to the regime.
