That's like comparing Mexico who the internal government is corrupt and people live in poverty and a few elites who live well and control the system but you still have some basic rights to North KOREA.....there is a huge difference.

there is a huge difference between Cuba pre Castro and Cuba under Castro.
It doesn't sound like you've spent much time studying either Cuba or North Korea. Over various points of my career, I studied both professionally.

I fully intend to visit Cuba to gather "ground truth," and I totally anticipate being able to leave freely. North Korea...I would not dare.

what makes you think if we open relations and the market with Cuba with NO concessions , the totalitarian government will change?......people especially the young ones here are naive and live in a dream world.....lol
You seem to be holding some view that the Cuban economy is bad. Based on what? To the latest national wealth per capita calculation Cuba is actually in pretty good shape...ahead of Mexico, Brazil and Venezuela in terms of GDP per capita.

Your country violated the sovereignty of all of those nations. They overthrew governments, assassinated leaders, trained murderers, rigged elections, and bombed innocent civilians.

So why would you suggest that Cuba has something to apologize for?

I am really happy for Cuba. Fidel Castro and his army of revolutionaries stood up to the racist, imperialist, corporatist United States. He and his supporters sacrificed so much so that nonwhite Cubanos could enjoy their lives in that island country. Castro even confiscated his own mother's land in the Oriente province, showing no favoritism to his own kin. It was an ideal that he strived for that ALL could contribute and submit for the common good.
Naturally,
His human rights abuses should not be overlooked. But taken overall, his ppl at least have access to services, medicine, education, etc.

Good question...

Until Helms-Burton is repealed, probably a long time from now.

Fair enough. It'd be different if he was conducting massacres.

But as it stands, they're just a very repressive regime. We deal with lots of repressive regimes.

Perhaps we could even return to sugar-based foods instead of the nasty corn syrup that we've been using since the 1970s?
