I've heard Black people use those same words as well as the N word to describe what you just said: are THEY white supremacist too? I don't like PWT tweakers: that doesn't that make me a white person hater even tho I'm "white".

Using common sense, if someone doesn't want to live around a certain ethnic group, then the chances are pretty high that they probably wouldn't like their children dating people from that ethnic group. In general I don't think the United States is really that liberal when it comes to race. The American media propaganda machine likes to tell lies to the world to make it seem like America is some place where all racial groups get along and are treated equality. Of course that is far from the truth.

Nope. You obviously have to be white to actually be a white supremacist. I don't really know what's so hard to understand about that. I'm not passing judgement on everyone that has ever used those three words; just the people who think they are slick. Both you and I know who these people are, so I'll leave it at that...

They can live in a lower-income black neighborhood or in an upper-income neighborhood where they are the only black family or one of the very few. Neither is a really good option.

Why is it a "bad" option for a black family or a few to live in an upper income neighborhood?[/quote]

Depends on the neighborhood. I would prefer a safe, affluent neighborhood where the schools are top-notch. I would also prefer a neighborhood with people from all ethnicities, including black. Most people don't want to be in a neighborhood where you're the only family that looks like yours, where most kids won't play with your kids, where there's nobody for your high schoolers to date, where you have to drive an hour to get a haircut, where you don't have anything at all in common with your neighbors.

that's why i really like my neighborhood here in Hampton Roads even though i hate Virginia in general. We have a very diverse community with funded schools. It's pretty solid middle class and upper middle class and most people own the homes they live in. This place would be perfect if we could airlift it back to San Diego. the only thing that sucks is that on our cul de sac all the kids are way older than my kids (young teens), so my kids don't go outside much.

Have your feelings on the macro state of race relations in the US impacted your more personal dealings with people of another race?

Do you care?

On the micro level, mine have not, but on the macro level, I've definitely become more cynical and negative towards hood rats, protesters and race baiters.
Ha ha what? Hood rats and protestors? What were your thoughts on them a few years back that you've become so cynical in comparison?

My feelings are the same about my friends (a diverse group) but lower when it comes to thinking that white racists with illogical views were a dying breed. People have really come out of the wood work with their views about black people and Hispanics.

The main issue regarding race relations in the U.S. is that white Americans are the ONLY group discriminated against. This needs to change. White citizens have civil rights too, ya know.

This article sums up the legitimacy of white rights.

Just reading between the lines here for a minute. You know what a lot of this sounds like to me?

Black (Hurt and angry): You don't like us!

White(Trying to reassure): That's not true. There are some of you who are lawless or messy and that we don't like.

Black: No! We know all of you don't like any of us. It's because of the color of our skin.

White: Please believe us when we say it isn't your skin color. There are White people who are lawless and messy we don't care for either. And there are a few outright racists but most of us don't care for them either.

Black: No! You still like them better because they are White. We can tell.

White: Really, we don't think about you that much one way or the other.

Black: See? You don't like us.

Many times in my discussions about race with black people over the years, no matter how much I try to indicate willingness to be honest and friendly and show good will I've felt double-binded. It's as though no matter how honestly I answer from my perspective I'm told I don't really know. It often feels like something is wanted from me but I don't know what it is or how to make it happen. It all feels like a huge gap of yearning and misunderstanding filled up with outrage to cover up hurt.

I wonder if black people who always feel discriminated against ever think about how sad some of us feel about this. It's like that friend who is forever nagging you to provide some kind of reassurance that you just can't give because the emptiness isn't yours to fill.
