Are police and fire departments religious groups? Some have opted out of SSI, quite legally, and do not participate at all.
Non-sequitur. The issue is religious people getting exemption from a federal law on Religious grounds. Government employees do not seek exemption on the basis of religious freedom.
It seems you operate on the assumption that if you repeat something often enough, it will magically become true. There is no special privilege in purchasing something offered for sale to the public.
Nope just hoping to break through the brick wall of ignorance flooding my responses. Some people only comprehend by repetition.
Is it illegal for people of the Amish faith to not pay into SSI? No. They have been granted that exemption.
Is it illegal for the florist to refuse to sell wedding flowers to a gay man? Yes. She has not been granted an exemption.
Do you see the difference?
The Amish are exempted from Federal Law due to the protection of the 1st Amendment.
The Christian business owner should be afforded the same rights to the free exercise of her faith under the 1st amendment.
See the similarity? She is not seeking to eradicate the law, she is seeking protection under the 1st
Amendment, just like the Amish and Muslims and a Conscientious Objector seek.
I've never seen an issue that gets people so worked up as who someone else chooses to sleep with. It's almost as silly as treating people differently because of the tone of their skin, lol can you imag- OH WAIT that's a thing too because people are nuts.
It's almost as silly as a small victimhood class seeking special privileges under the false marketing of "equality."
ok my last argument here for those who cant see why this is wrong. lets take chick fil-A. the owner is very anti gay and has come out saying so. Protests over his comments have spread, but the DIFFERENCE is, he's not banning them from coming into his business and buying products from him/franchisees.
can you NOT see the difference? if you cant then you are blinder than hellenkeller.
this thread just makes me happy we STILL (or at least for the most part) have separation of church and state.
There is no such thing as "separation of church and state" just say you are happy that we still have progressive lemmings that parrot anything without understanding it.

True, but I wouldn't take certain posters too seriously. To use one of their favorite words, no one could be this deliberately obtuse. After a while, you begin to suspect they are simply carrying on because they enjoy the reaction they are getting. Don't make the mistake of taking them too seriously.

Has she been granted an exemption?
