Wait until there a few frontrunners on the GOP side. Look what happened as the 2012 GOP flavors of the week emerged into the limelight and their every past transgression and error came up. Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry, et al. Same thing will happen this time. I'm sure we have not heard most of the dirty laundry of the candidates and their families that will be dragged out by the media. They are all fair game, and the rightwing media has already set a journalistic precedent of criticizing candidates and those holding office over the most idiotic things. At least with Democrats. I don't think Ferraro is remembered as being a joke. In addition to being the first female vice presidential candidate she was an attorney, a Congresswoman and a United States Ambassador to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights. She certainly was not a bubble brain like Palin.
