Look leaving for political issues is unjustified. Even though the current adminstration has fook up alot of stuff. We as a people can fix a bit of our problems. You just have to have enough gumption to say enough is enough and let your local politicans know how you feel. You also have to get out there and vote. Now have there been some issues with the voting tallying? Yeah. But to be honest that type of sh** been going on since the begining of our democracy.
If your leaving because of finacial reasons. I can better understand your additude because in some places the dollar still goes a long way.
But still if your a retire on a fixed income. There are still places in the union that are cheap to live in over all. Look at thte Midwest and some of the South. You can still make it there. As for us younger folk. Well the road is hard but I think we can make it. We just going to have to work hard and hang tough.

But hey guys. If you got to go. Alright. But I'm still staying and going to try to hold my own and stand my ground.

That is what I worry about. Even though we save for retirement, I am afraid our 401K's will go down the toilet. Peak Oil is going to be a reality and I think the next 10 years will be bad, economically.
I tried working on various political campaigns while we lived in MD, but somehow those with the deepest pockets always won and after the elections were over, it was business as usual...
I believe it will be a lot of hard work to bring some change, to give power back to the people and take it away from big business and special interest groups.
I applaud and support those that are working toward this goal.

If so, for what reasons and how would you go about it?

I honestly thought about it from a few factors in my life.
Here goes: from living in Detroit as a youngster and spending alot of time as a teen/young adult in Windsor, Ont., it's hard to believe the differences in the two areas being 'just right across the river'. It really is a microcosm of the differences of the two countries via history, politics and social strata. (ect..) Sometimes, as a teen, young adult, i would feel something 'ain't right' with the U.S.

Another thing is how we're programmed consumers in the U.S. is really disturbing. Take, for instance ,the art of bartering. Most U.S. consumers walk into a store willingly pay for what the price says on most consumer goods. Having lived in Phoenix with a high Mexican/hispanic population coupled with visiting the border town of Nogales, Mexico. I got to see that side of the coin. The art of bartering is lost among many ("mainstream") Americans. It is if though the U.S. (consumer) is one big mass of sheep.

Another reason is the healthcare in the U.S. (that needs no explaning other than the fact that it is fundementally flawed..in a nutshell)

I would like to hear your stories and reasons if you did move out, thought about it or in the process of doing it.

B.G.F.
Good post. Plan on giving a different coast a chance- (closer to Seattle or Vancouver).

Any country with this broken medical system and faltering economy (and the rampant consumerism- I agree with you) is not where I want to spend the rest of my life. The capitalist brainwashing we see in middle America actually scares me. I see people with mediocre jobs and 50k trucks they cant afford, thinking they are living the "American Dream".

The dream has been dead since 2001. I feel sorry for new college grads who will need more and more degrees to get paid what they are worth, as banks and corps outsource to India. India no longer accepts the US dollar, as it has been so de-valued. Scary.

I agree. It is scary how many people are a couple of paychecks from bankruptcy, yet they think they are living the "american dream". Not to mention how many people end up broke because of medical bills and a lot of them have insurance - yet they are underinsured.

I'd love to stay if we restore our Constitution... but it seems like the Republicans have no regard for our liberties and the Democrats want to turn us into more of a socialist state... so I have little hope for the future.

I'm willing to start up a fund to pay moving costs for all of the socialists to relocate to one of the many socialist countries though.

To those who say, go ahead and leave, or to those who assert that leaving for political purposes is unjustified...I agree somewhat. But, when there's little hope for change even if massive numbers of people rise up, then leaving is a good choice. It's not unAmerican to want to leave. Not when what they leave behind hardly resembles America. I applaud those who say we can still change things, but how about giving us some ideas? How do we implement these changes when people are so divided they're willing to pay to get socialist-leaning individuals away from them? Where's the UNITED in the USA?

Not until an upheaval will there be real change. That upheaval will, unfortunately due to the stupidity of humans everywhere, take the form of war. I doubt the the "Land of the Bombs and the Home of the Aggressive" will be the safest place around. Better to start scouting out alternatives. Sometimes survival requires abandoning national sentiment with tears in both eyes.

It's not an either-or proposition. Lots of people split time between the US and another country (for example, living in the US during the school year for the kids, then summering somewhere else). It usually comes down to the kind of work you do, and if you can work in a way where you control a lot of your own schedule. If not, moving out of the country might mean you have to find an entirely new job, or even create one using the opportunities of straddling two countries.

People do this for a lot of different reasons. I know one couple who are based in the US but live about five months of the year in the Philippines. They try to get all their health care taken care of while overseas, because it is so much cheaper.

Also, it's not really a matter of liking or disliking the US. The world is a big place. The US is only 6% of the Earth's landmass, 4.5% of the world's population, and is just one out of the world's 194 independent countries, not counting a few dozen more territories. There is room to explore. It doesn't imply a rejection of the US, just because someone is not living there.

I don't understand why people who want to leave just talk about it. I moved to Italy almost 4 years ago. I have three little kids. It is way cheaper to live here than in the US even with the exchange. What is your problem? Stop whining and move. The whining is why I moved. I take it back. Keep the whining over there.

I just watched the 20/20 episode about which country has the happiest people. It was Denmark. The people are taxed at about 60% of their income, but they want for nothing as far as medical care or retirement, etc. There is practically no crime. They assume the reason why it works is because almost everyone in Denmark is danish..no foreigners, so they all see themselves as one like-minded group.
Anyway, this could never work here, since we have a tossed salad of people and we're built on individualism and entrepreneurship. There will always be people who can't or won't pull his own wagon. If you are one of those people, please do get on some other government's gravy train, not ours.

yes, I've been to over 30+ cities in Mexico, have spent months there, most of the areas I have had no problem...But, the thought of being considered wealtheri then 99% of the country there, would surely bring some attention.

If the US dollar keeps falling into the oubliette of oblivion, we will start seeing mass exodus of people heading to Mexico for high paying jobs. Thats one way of dealing with illegal immigration.
