I think she found it got her better opportunities, aka affirmative action.

The problem with Rachel Dolezal is not that she identified as being black, or was a leader in the NAACP. Its her taking advantage of opportunities that are given to the very same people who's rights she was fighting for. Identifying with another race is far different from what she did. She knowingly pretended to be someone she is nor will ever be. She seriously damaged the credibility of her chapter of the NAACP, and embarrassed the organization as a whole. If she previously benefited from scholarships because she claimed she was black when in fact she is not then that is fraud, and she should either pay back the money, or face incarceration. She could have still done all she has previously done WITHOUT living this lie.

Hell no.

Family and close friends might know, but how many of them just go around and tell EVERYONE they know? Doubt they put it on their resume or LinkedIn page either.
No, most would not hang a sign around their neck or post it online, but most likely wouldn't argue or hide the fact if asked about it.

If she had said "I'm white, but I took the job because I identify with the mission of the NAACP and the issues faced by blacks in this country," wouldn't that have been more honest? Of course, she might not have gotten her dream job that way.

Not sure about that. It would have put her at the back of the line if she was just a white
czech girl. It's all about the B.....

Exactly. Nobody cares what you call yourself in your private life, but she should not be surprised that dishonesty doesn't work well when you are in the public arena.

So only "real" black oeople can lead the NAACP? Should Jenner be barred from positions in women's groups because that would take away opportunity from real women?

So... as black people what would you say if it were reversed?

I can hear the calls of oreo, uncle tom, or worse.

This is a case of a white person who made the claims (lied) that her father is black. She rode to a position of power based on the lie. Would she have become the President of the NAACP if she hadn't lied?

Look, I have a black GGrandFather, and I've been told many times that my drop of black doesn't count... by other blacks.

Now all of a sudden a white woman who lied about being black is defended? So odd the road we're traveling down these days.

I think that I might start writing "African-American" where it asks for race on forms.
