"Charity starts at home !" We can't fix all the world's problems or help every single person on this planet, we have enough of our own at home struggling and dying.
I'm sorry that the people who are fleeing had the terrible misfortune to be born in that armpit of the world, but I also do not want to add to our problems here by being the Savior of the World. We would be taking on more that just the potential for criminal acts, there are the economic and medical issues to consider as well.

Absolutely. Africa and SE Asia are full of refugees too. Who made Syria and Muslims from other countries the #1 Refugee groups. I dont remember this talk about Rwanda?
Why become anti-refugee just because a terrorist attack might happen?
Theres a lot of things that could be banned because they might cause a terrorist attack.
When did people become so terrified as to compramise their values just in case something bad happens?
Fall 2001...I forget the actual date.
Nobody is "compromising values". In fact, we are trying to preserve our values. Refugees have ALWAYS been carefully vetted, until somebody decided we had to be p.c. and compassionate and throw common sense aside. Do you realize just how stringently WWII refugees were scrutinized? And there wasn't a wide-spread threat of insane terrorism chopping people's heads off just because they believed differently.
The powers that be have become lax, for political reasons, and it's going to cost us dearly if we allow it to continue. A process and controls have to be in place before we open the floodgates.

We should help the refugees that are stuck in places like Turkey and Jordan. We could do that tomorrow while we debate about how many and who to let in. My problem has always been that if we let in 200k there would still be millions left in Mid East refugee camps. At some point the debate has to be about helping those people rather than letting 1% come to America so we can feel good about ourselves.
I also think it's fair to say that focusing on the refugees on foot going to Europe while ignoring those stuck in places like Myanmar, Congo, Burundi, etc sends a message that you only get help by invading Europe on foot. I want to help the people where they are so they can easily return home and help their land rebuild.
We should be prudent and impose sensible improvements, blocking refugees without any history is not completely rational.
If we don't know the refugees' history -- which we don't, and can't -- then keeping them out of this country IS completely rational.
