Medical innovation won't see you for a surgery and leave you with a bill that will cause bankruptcy. In America, 61% of all bankruptcies are from medical bills.
I was listening to NPR, and they were interviewing someone from Italy, and he was speaking in Italian (interpreted) about whether or not he should spend money on a new set of tires for his delivery vehicle or an upcoming surgery. He was complaining he didn't have the money for both. In a European country, the cost of a surgery (this was the entire cost for this man) was about the same as a new set of tires. And he also mentioned he would have a week long recovery in the hospital.
Innovation is what gets all those great medicines and technology for people to use. The money and incentive has to come from somewhere, and the US offers a lot of it.
So, even with their wonderful social medicine, this Italian guy still had issues with paying for his medical care? What innovative medicine has Italy provided to the world recently? DO they even have money to research new medicines and technology? DO they even retain talented people who would stay there to do this instead of coming to the US where they can make money on their idea?
My view is that Americans often struggle to comprehend the truth, because Americans have been indoctrinated to believe that no other nation could possibly do anything better than the United States.
I don't deny that Michael Moore's films contain sensationalism and some inaccuracies, but he at least deserves credit for drawing attention to issues that would otherwise remain buried under the rug.
People dismiss him as "anti-American" to protect the status quo.
They also don't border a third world country, have tens of millions of illegals or have a very large percentage of the population without any work ethic who think the government owes them everything.
We should learn something from the European countries. We should learn to let the rest of the world take care of itself, stop defending everyone else and cut foreign aid. We should also learn about restricting immigration like EU countries normally do and stop letting people in who aren't going to benefit the country.
Give it a minute, Merkel is doing her level best to give them a piece of that action. We'll see how they act in a few years...they're already ticked off...let them simmer in it a bit longer. It's easy to say that X is better than Y when X doesn't have AB messing it up...but X now has AB messing it up. Let's just sit back and watch...

All true. Americans struggle to understand the truth because they are indoctrinated by all kinds of influences, only one of which is that Americans are the best at everything. Digging a little deeper, our healthcare system is ranked the 37th best in the world.

Why do so many outsiders come to the U. S. for our God-awful health care?
We rarely hear about Americans jetting of to Europe for supposedly superior healthcare, why is that?
Who said anything about our healthcare being God-awful? We have some of the best healthcare in the world, if you can afford to pay for it. Americans do go on "medical tourism" vacations all over the world, getting medical procedures done at an affordable price.

We can even dig a little deeper and look at how American healthcare performs across specific areas in contrast to 10 other developed nations. You'll notice that the U.S. did not even top the ranking for "timeliness", contrary to popular belief:
Europeans are smarter than Americans. That's not really saying much, I know, and is more like stating the obvious,)
When it comes to educational policies I have to agree. They are a lot more selective when it comes to going into advanced education.
Also, up until recently, they were very choosy about letting just anybody move in and start sucking up the "free" goodies.
We can learn much from them.
And make them pay more for defense. A LOT more.
