It's a power trip thing. That cop should not be around kids and should be forced to undergo mandatory anger management classes and courses on behavior and conduct. That's IF he wants to keep a job in law enforcement.
That said, the mother and daughter didn't come across as being particularly worthy of sympathy. Both seemed to have chips on their shoulder. There was something about their demeanor that didn't jibe with me. I'll add San Antonio to the growing list of places I wouldn't care to visit.

Excuse me, a cops job is to enforce laws and protect the public. not to replace the job of incompetent parents who clearly have zero control of their kids.

this little punk deserved what she got. and if you'll notice in the video, his tactic worked. She got up and walked with him calmly. she didn't cry, she's not hurt, aside from her ego maybe.

Gloria Valdez, the 12-year-old girl's mother, told CBS affiliate KENS it was completely uncalled for.

"Supposedly he was threatened by her that she kicked him, but in the video her legs never went up," Valdez said.

Valdez's daughter did not want to go on camera but told KENS that she was having a conversation with another girl when a crowd surrounded them. She said that's when the officer put his hands on her.

"All he had to is grab her and put her to the side," Valdez said.

A spokeswoman for the San Antonio Independent School District said the officer has been placed on paid leave.

I still believe if this girl was resisting him, she deserved every bit of that slam.....

Why do some black people (regardless of age) resist the police so violently. When I have to deal with a police officer I treat him or her with a lot of respect and courtesy and generally they go out of their way to be polite and gentle.

If a police officer wanted to arrest me I would be so cooperative that escalation to violence would not be an option.

Julian, you are right, however, I don't believe this child was black, was she?

She will be fine, notice how she quit resisting, fighting with the officer after being thrown down, it knocked some sense into her and I doubt she will ever fight with a cop again. Kids need to learn to respect authority, since it is not taught at home any more.

Sometimes, no amount of persuasion or warnings work on a belligerent person; that’s when cops have to use force, and the results can be tragic.

This said, I wonder if there can be a balance somewhere, after all, this is a 12 year old, pretty hard to watch.

Best policy: If a police officer is trying to arrest you, don't struggle. Don't give them any excuse to use force at all. Typically, they'll tell you to turn around or kneel down or lie down and put your hands behind your back. Just do it. That girl was struggling and kicking and resisting. She's kinda asking for it. If you don't want bad things to happen, then don't resist arrest.

This does underscore the power of having video cameras everywhere. Video footage can be brought to court and if the cops are using excessive force or doing anything they shouldn't they'll be caught and prosecuted accordingly. But in this case, I don't think the police officer did anything wrong.

That cop can't even restrain a 12 year old girl without resorting to slamming her head first into concrete? Even if she was being uncooperative, that cop's job is to restrain her and simply make the arrest. Not to go all HULKSMASH just to show her who's BOSS!!

A bloated ego and a badge is a dangerous combination.
