Mmm. Well a security system can give you advance warning that someone is breaking in. As can a dog with the added benefit of (if you have the right sort of dog) engaging the intruder (s). So minus the possible engagement by the canine corps upon such advance alert do ...what? Wait for the cops while said intruder boots in the bedroom door , which I presume you advised them to hide behind? Which isn't totally u sound advice, however the intruder still presents an issue.
At that point the time gained via the advance warning and the obstacle of the door is far to valuable to spend just waiting on cops. It seems that when the door busts open a blast from a 12 ga, which you've had plenty of time to get into play, would be a better option and solves the issue without fretting over police response time.
Security systems and dogs are great. The first line of defense is always important. But as any security expert will tell you security should be layered. Strip of steel welded together is stronger (much) than a solid piece of the same size. If you folks have a good knowledge of firearms and the mindset to use them, then why shouldn't they add that to their security layers?
