And if you think that CA has a "quasi-socialist" economy, then why not cut them loose? Wouldn't that be good for both sides of the debate?

I have no idea of the particulars of a separation, but the point is that CA is far richer than the U.S. as a whole, with a far more vibrant economy. It would probably be fine. Obviously if the "other U.S." wanted to start a war or something then things would be very bad for all involved.

I honestly think that Americans need to look into a separation. I don't say this to be confrontational, but to say we agree to disagree. CA and NY aren't ever going to fall in line for Trump and I doubt West Virginia and Alabama are ever going to accept Muslims or immigrants or abortion rights. Maybe a divorce is the best thing for both parties?

New York isn't going anywhere. Home to Wall Street, finance capital of the world and close to DC.

But as an eastern conservative I'm all for looking into letting California leave. And if Washington and Oregon and even Hawaii want to join them, so much the better. You people want to live under socialism -- have at it. First, you might want to look up the history of how socialism has done in the other places it has been tried. Also remember that you are on your own the next time a major earthquake hits.

California has frequently tried to seced over the years but they might just get enough votes to do it now using Trump to fuel the cause.

"Supporters of a plan for California to secede from the union took their first formal step Monday morning, submitting a proposed ballot measure to the state attorney general’s office in the hopes of a statewide vote as soon as 2018."

They say Californians are culturally different from the rest of the country, and that national media and organizations routinely criticize Californians for being out of step with the rest of the U.S.

^I knew they'd try this again after Trump won. They are always trying to leave.
I think they should go. The feds can use the 46% of their land that is federally owned to build big honkin' refineries. 55 Democrat electoral votes up in smoke.

If CA left the union they'd likely team up with Mexico some how .
Many CA politicians seem to have more allegiance to Mexico these days than the United States .
Our pro illegal alien Mayor in Los Angeles , CA says Mexico is like a second home to him and blah blah . "We need to build bridges not walls" "Trump is a racist " nonsense .

Awful mayor . CA will likely get someone equally left as Governor . If you aren't strongly in support of illegal immigration and breaking of federal laws these days it seems you can't be in the Democratic Party .

They are free to pack up their crap and leave but the land belongs to California.
And CA belongs to the US. Counties in CA deciding not to secede with the rest of CA is just as plausible as CA seceding form the US.

I can't speak for other regions but Northern New England (VT, NH, ME) have little in common with Southern New England (MA, RI, CT) and absolutely nothing in common with NY & NJ. I suspect the people who come up with these maps have never been here.

You're missing the point of the whole map (not like it matters) but it appears that the intention is to have every blue shaded state become part of one united new nation, or join Canada apparently. ME also has nothing in common with CA for example, both states which would be part of the new proposed country, but how is this different from, well, now?

NE, NJ, and NY wouldn't be its own country but joined with MN and the West Coast. Very strange and a terrible idea but people can think up whatever they want I guess.

Wrong.

There is a constitutional process that allows a state to leave, an amendment approved by 3/4ths of the state legislatures.

Counties in California can be changed by the state legislature.
