Still.....Hacksaw Ridge should of won Best Picture and Mel Gibson Best Director......and sorry, Andrew Garfield should have won best actor......didn't care much for Casey Affleck performance. Andrew Garfield was playing a real person and an American hero.
My wife who doesn't like war movies loved it......well, this is Hollywood, what do you expect....unless its a war film bashing U.S. Policy and bashing our soldiers as killers and rapists, it won't win an Oscar.
At this point, I'm not sure which movie did win. If it was a joke, it was a terrible joke to play on Faye Dunaway
Moonlight won.
It wasnt a joke. And how would that be a joke on Faye Dunaway? They had the wrong envelope. Usually the winner takes the envelope with them, but for some reason Emma Stone wasn't given hers, or maybe they accidently printed two copies of hers.
Best Picture ----- I saw all 9 ----- not only no clear winner, IMO, but more overall than ever (among the choices) deserve the win....Hidden Figures, Lion, La La Land, and Hacksaw Ridge.....all deserving . Second tier = Moonlight, and Fences, Third tier = Arrival.
What an F-up by Warren Beatty.
Serves him right for injecting politics into the situation.
He was so wrapped up in his political comment that he didn't notices that someone handed him the 'Emma Stone - La La Land - Best Actress' envelope rather than the 'Best Picture' envelope, and read La La Land as Best Picture rather than seeking out the correct envelope which read 'Moonlight'.
At least he admitted his error on stage.
Can you imagine if a conservative had made that mistake .
Moonlight was a great movie, but there was something a bit too 'TVish' about it overall that kept it from the top tier, IMO.

What movie depicts US soldiers as killers and rapists?
Plenty of war movies have won in the past. It doesnt mean Hollywood is anti US if every war movie doesnt win, or every person depicting an "American Hero" doesn't win. Casey Affleck did an amazing job in Manchester by the Sea. I figured he would win. I thought Hacksaw Ridge was also a great movie, and all the acting was fantastic. I just doesn't think it can be compared to Manchester by the Sea.
Warren and Beatty didn't mess up. They read what was in the envelope.
But Emma Stone's name was at least as prominnt on the card as the film re the card he was handed.....he should have noticed that. He probably would have had he not had politics on his mind....his political commentary had just rolled off his tongue.
