It is fairly obvious that all the first amendment haters on this thread want only one Putin-like state sanctioned TV station and to do away with a free press.

Do you how that video was shot in the first place?

Bonifield was approached by this "operative" and told he had had suffered many personal hardships and wanted to be part of a mentoring program. Bonifield took him on a tour of the facility.

This is the type of activity you would associate with a police state. So, I can understand why Trumpettes are so overjoyed with this video.

Actually, you have it exactly backwards. The left had de facto state sponsored media until the advent of talk radio and, to a lesser extent, FOX news.

Which is why the right attacks ALL media that it finds disagreeable.

Again - the baseless accusation simply proves how your side of the aisle thinks. You would probably be OK with a police state as long as your people are in power.

WRONG. I believe in the free dissemination of all information. What makes your side of the aisle prone to police state policies is that your side seeks to discredit news and any truth that does not support your positions.

My hometown newspaper has a very conservative editorial board. It backed Trump for President. I have never though said the contents were fake news even when mistakes were made in certain local stories.

That is the rightist prerogative. You don't like the news, burn down the entire institution. Can you say police state?

Taking one story and generalizing that it is a state sponsored conspiracy is a rather giant leap, it does give you the excuse to ignore any facts in the future and make up your own.

Unless you were busy calling out Infowars on Pizzagate and Hillary conspiracy theories - then YES, it is simply whining.

They can't handle the truth.

Bingo.

Trump has fanned the flames of this 'war on the media" because he needs a bad guy to keep fanning the flames of rage in his followers. Now that the chances of 'locking her up" are zero to NONE - his rabid base needs someone else to hate.

Have you made a mistake? Have I made a mistake? Yes. Does that mean that that's all we are, that mistake? No. When has our liar and chief ever admitted to a mistake? When has our liar and chief ever retracted anything negative? Yes the reporters should have followed protocol, but just because something wasn't 100% proven doesn't mean that it's not true. It just means that they didn't do all of the home work needed to thoroughly fact check. How many times have you or I made a mistake at work?

Again: CNN did the right thing. Classy move. Apology accepted. EVERYONE makes mistakes. Moving on. Tweeted by Saramucci himself. The fact that CNN acknowledged the mistake, owned it, and took the appropriate action ramps up their street cred for me. Trump 0/ CNN +1. Other news networks will make mistakes. It's when they double down and try to cover it up that they lose credibility. Who does that remind you of?

This is very encouraging. A huge news organization like CNN is not afraid to correct a mistake - and by the way, the mistake was was not having the source properly vetted, we don't know for sure whether the content of the report was valid or not. TBD.

The idea that any of these news giants from NBC to FOX are flawless and don't have similar misses from time to time is ridiculous. The real question is, when you find a problem do you fix it? CNN did and that's a good thing.

Of course our neo-fascist President Trump will try to use this to further damage one of the basic cornerstones of our democracy - our free press. It was obvious from day 1 that was his most urgent goal, as it always is for any wannabe dictator, because a free press is an authoritarian's worst nightmare. Shut them up and if possible shut them down, because once they are silenced life gets a lot easier. Just look back at any authoritarian regime and you will see that pattern. Putin's destruction of the free press in Russia is a perfect example.

Make no mistake, Trump and the goons he has placed in his Cabinet are the biggest danger America faces today. Their agenda is crystal clear to everyone by now. You are either with them or you are against them, it will be hard to stay on the fence for long. Far more dangerous than a few isolated Islamic terrorists with bomb vests or North Korea plunking a few missiles out into the ocean.

It seems like CNN did exactly what Trump and his team have been complaining about and clamoring for - holding people accountable for bad reporting.
