A points based immigration system is a step in the right direction. It's definitely better than the system that we have now.

Along with illegal immigrants, we also should also be willing to deport and deny citizenship to current resident aliens who do not meet these new standards.

I agree. How is it diversity to allow in far more immigrants from a certain country or ethnic group?

Looks like you missed the boat - we are talking legal immigrants, and not illegal immigrants.

Illegal immigration was also being discussed under this topic. As for legal immigrants, it's still not diversity if we favor a particular country or ethnic group.

IMO, even under the merit system we should make sure that we actually need these qualified immigrants rather than them coming here replacing American or competing with them for jobs. It should not only be merit but need also. Population growth should also be a consideration.

Most legal immigrants are from Mexico and other Latino countries also. Where's the diversity?

Good question!

Pro-illegal alien types and their ilk, when backed into a corner, end up talking out of both sides of their mouths. What you wrote above^^^^is a good example of that.
