Political pundits are saying both sides of Congress don't want this because of their big money donors. We have to email and phone (I just saw a commercial with a toll free number but don't remember it.). Inundate them and scream for common sense solutions that are good for Americans and not for those greedy bastards who line their own pockets.

This is exactly the reason Trump is hated by every politician, blue or red.

H1B aside, how are they "stealing" professional jobs... companies hire whoever is most qualified or performs better in an interview. Good talent can mean the difference between stellar profits and OK profits, so I'm sure they appreciate the competition.

Oh please!

We don't need low skilled people as we have plenty of Americans to do those jobs.

Stop the nonsense about produce going up if the illegals leave. There won't be $5 heads of lettuce if there aren't any illegals. Honest farmers use the guest worker visa program and they don't charge more for their crops than the sleazy farmers who use illegals.

Allowing elderly parents is just a continuation of chain migration. Once the elderly parent is here, s/he can petition to have their siblings come over, too. And on and on it goes with no benefits to our society.

Besides, many people sponsor their elderly parents and are required to show that they have to money to support said parents. Yet, after the parents come, many who sponsored them renege on their promises and the parent ends up on welfare. That should not be tolerated.

Australia uses a merit based immigration system and they do not tolerate illegals. The minimum wage in Australia is around $17 per hour.

Yes, higher wages drive the cost of living up quite a bit, not $5 heads of lettuce though.

Most of our Ancestors would have never been allowed into America, if Immigration was based on that criteria, when they came. Most were fleeing Religious Persecution, or famine, or war torn homelands. Most Saw America as a beacon of hope and opportunity.
So, most of the people posting here from America...would have been born and a citizen of another Country....Just saying.

But you wait until these young and highly educated immigrants take away the best paying jobs in the country. Then ask your question again!
That should not be the case. Go to your local university to look at the foreign student enrollment, and you will see students from all over the world (lots from India and Asia) getting their masters. These students immigrate to the US on student visas, and later are hired by US companies. They have been doing this for years.

And this is how Canada takes care of immigration (skill-based):

That was then, this is now. Back then immigrants were needed to build cities, roads, and so on. You have to take into consideration that the skills back then were related to manual labor such a brick-laying, road construction using blocks of rock (look at some of the old streets in NY), plastering, carpentry, rough plumbing, working with iron and other metals, rail work, and so on. A lot of the immigrants from Italy and Portugal were renown for their excellent building skills, for example. Back then the US was not overpopulated like it is today, and the immigrants running from their home countries had no trouble whatsoever assimilating into the US culture. Read the history about the Irish cops in NY and Chicago, about the great number of immigrants fighting for the US in WWII, and about immigrants in the construction business in all the big US cities long ago.

The immigrants of the past were more than willing to assimilate, which is not the case today. And yes, I immigrated to the US long ago, became an American, served in the military for 20 years, and I deeply feel that this is the greatest place in the world.

Now, take a look at how immigration was done back then:

Oh geez, we were a wide open frontier, sparsely populated back then and in need of nation building, grunt workers. There was no welfare back then either. You either supported yourself or went back home. It's an entirely difference scenario today. We don't need uneducated, poor people flooding our country today. They are a burden to our society.
