Why is it a ridiculous question, what gives the SPLC or any organization the right to declare any group a hate group.
If someone doesn't know what a hate group is or isn't, they shouldn't be discussing hate groups on an internet forum...
The check list criteria used to classify hate groups is called common sense.. If you don't have common sense you're incapable of having an intelligent conversation.. And I'll leave it at that...
Why? I'm not publishing a list. If I were publishing a list, I would have criteria that would be used to develop the list.
Ok, now that I addressed your deflection, do you want to address why they refuse to publish their criteria?
I'm not on the board of the SPLC. You want to know why something isn't published, you contact them and ask the question. Instead of additional attempts to derail the discussion, seek the info you're asking for from the source...
My opinion is it's in response to all the other marches and rallies.
Example. If you are at a friend's dinner party. You might be passionate about politics, but you don't want to broach the subject; however, if others begin talking politics, you are much more likely to state your opinions.
I think the increase in the number of protests and rallies have sparked the desire of others to increase their presence and get their views out there.

Sorry, but without the criteria being published, their list is nothing but subjective opinion on their part and should not be considered as anything else.
Common sense is an even more overused term than hate is.
Common sense depends on perspective.
Sometimes people commit so hard to a side, without even knowing the facts, that they'd rather look foolish than admit they need to reconsider.
I've eaten crow on this site more than once because I made an assumption that was the base of my argument only to find out my assumption was wrong. But, I manned up and took my lumps. No need to lose all credibility by digging in you heels when you clearly shouldn't.
