Yeah, have to be careful not to overthink this...I suspect in spite of the expensive holographic site, the precise but useless bullet drop calculations, and so forth...he simply sprayed the field of 22,000 people. No precise aiming needed for that, you are going to get numerous hits sadly.
sheriff says he believes the shooter was targeting police cars as they showed up and there's evidence that he was also shooting at the airport fuel tanks
Lombardo/ Clarke County and MGM now are in agreement on the timeline. The security guard encountered the shooter at 22:05, within the minute the shooter opened fire on the crowd, below. The earlier confusion was attributed to the guard using an internal stairway to access 32. He encountered the same barricaded door that the ad hoc swat team would later on. He then used the elevator to get to 32.
Lombardo was emotional and said it's a complex investigation, not incompetence. Thousands of people are involved and need to be checked out.
They don't know why he stopped shooting. They do know that as LE began to arrive the shooter redirected and targeted LE.
They are now attempting to put together a timeline of the shooter's life and everyone is encountered.
Suspect they wish there was evidence to support an ISIS directed attack that would enable them to wrap it up. Thus far, it appears they got nothing.
It seems something similar happened at Mandalay Bay early last year:
"As you know I am employed there. Just an FYI--One of our officers was shot in the leg.
I have something that needs to be said because it WONT be said by anybody else because it's an "in house" event. In 2016--early in the year, the EXACT same scenario almost played out.
A young man in his early 30's was arrested by police for having a "long range rifle" on a tripod in his room. He had a etched a small hole in the window and was in the process of making his way thru the glass. He was a convicted felon out of California. There were over 4000 rounds of ammo and numerous handguns found in the room as well. He was caught because when he left his room, he neglected to hang the do not disturb sign on his doorknob. Housekeeping came to clean the room and obviously freaked out when they saw the guns. Police were waiting for him when he returned.
Our local news NEEDS to the world what really happens in these casinos.
But then again, if that happens we'd ALL be out of work. Sad sad sad... What a horrible day to live and work in this town."
Her story saids strange. She said the further she ran, the louder the gun fire got. That’s makes sense if she was running toward the hotel. Also, she didn’t “IDENTIFY” multiple shooters. She never saw them. She most likely heard echoes and bullets ricocheting.
And now the hotel security guard ups and runs away moments before several high profile interviews. To say that that was a stupid thing to do is a given, he'd have the press eating out of his hand and was guaranteed to get preferential treatment with his hero status, even if there were discrepancies now in when the police were notified and when they responded. Unless, of course, somebody got to him and warned him about saying the wrong thing or saying something he saw that he wasn't supposed to see. The FBI has a history of not seeking out eye witnesses and listening to their first hand accounts if it doesn't fit their official narrative.
