Look at our culture and all the sexuality, both subtle and obvious, in it. If that is not enough to "make somebody straight," nothing will.
Also, you can't "catch the gay," and there's no "conspiracy to convert our kids to the gay lifestyle" for the same reason. Given all the pressure in society to be straight - and how that doesn't change gays - it should be obvious that any "pressure" applied from having gay people around is not enough to change straight people gay.
Finally, being gay is NOT a choice. Nobody in the history of humanity came home one day and thought to himself or herself, "Well, it's time to become sexually mature! I need to do a comparative analysis being straight or gay and see which one would be better for me!" That's insanity and not how things work; if people could chose, they'd all be straight because it would save them the abuse dealt out by bigots and "religious" nuts for being gay.
Don't believe me? OK, if you're straight, tell me when you chose to be straight? Not who your first crush was - when did you CHOSE to be straight? You never did, and I never did - it just happened. Same idea for gays.
Jesus was sent to us because we are sinful, because we cannot follow gods law. The Old Testament is more about he law. However that does not mean God the son freed us from following Old Testament law other than some of the ceremonial stuff he directly addressed in the New Testament. That means the Ten Commandments still stand as do all the other laws in the Old Testament. This includes those on homosexuality. The good news of Jesus is that we are saved, the sins paid for on the cross. All sinners are offered salvation through Jesus, even homosexuals who repent. Also the New Testament does make mention of homosexual sins, just not as harshly as it is mentioned in the Old Testament.
I noticed this forum has a Religion and Spirituality sub-section. You might like it over there.

You do not choose what you feel (attractions, for example), but you choose what you do. You choose who you have sex with. Unfortunately some people are attracted to children, and I think it is more or less genetic; but they are still good people if they choose not to fulfill their desire.
There is no strong proof either way, whether sexual orientation can be altered or not. It does not seem to change in normal conditions, but that conculsion does not necessarily apply to potential medical treatment (real scientifically-based methods).
I don't like the way you phrased the choices. It's a simple yes or no question. There's no need to drag religion into it.
I think it can work for some people. Just like AA works for some people. Depriving these people of an opportunity to assume what to them is a better kind of life is unfair and cruel.
My folks and I are on good terms now. Took them some time to get used to the idea that I ain't ever bringing home a girl LOL.
Think of it this way. I had a good career going and owned a house when the poop hit the fan for me. For my fiance, it happened at a much younger age but he was able to stay with his grandparents and now I'm paying for his college. What's really sad is think of all the homeless kids that don't have anywhere to go. How do I know they're out there? I got 2 of them sleeping on my couches right now.
Anybody can say wow that is so sad. If you really do think it's so sad, do something about it. I encourage everyone to do something about it. Mentor them, let them sleep at your place, whatever you can contribute.
If christians are as good as they claim to be, they'd be focusing their energy on solving youth homelessness instead of encouraging their members to disown their gay kids.
While we don't invite people to stay in our home, we have contributed financially to charities and to specific individuals who were caring for gay teens who had been kicked out of their homes.

I know some people who think that homosexuality can be "triggered" by childhood abuse. Personally I find that absurd. I know many people who were sexually abused as children (myself included) and only one guy turned out gay. Then again, these are the same people who think that gay men are also pedophiles.
Believing and trusting God is not ignorance. I realize many of the so called “progressive “ types here on CD are residents of large northern and coastal cities where my beliefs are ridiculed so I will take this comment with a grain of salt. Just know that much of America still agrees with what I said and that is why there are more red states than blue, that is why congress and the White House are in the hands of republicans and that is why you have seen this huge backlash against the liberal PC culture. There are still a lot of Christian people who believe what I do. I do not believe nor will I ever accept the left wing narrative of how our future will be, especially on this issue, or any other for that matter. I will not rest or be silent until traditional American values are restored and the cancer of liberalism is cut out of this nation. You say I am ignorant for believing in God and promoting the values of the Bible, I say you are foolish and lost for not following God.
All I can say is the country will be better place as more of those of your generation with these beliefs complete their life cycle and "meet Jesus in heaven". Bless your heart.
If there is a god thingie why is he/she/it so hung up about our sex lives? Seems like god is the one with the problem.
No kidding.
I don't bother worrying about an ant's sex life. Why on earth would that matter to me?
