I've been an advocate of "Fair Tax" proposal(s) for years. But its chances are very slim; most people don't have a high enough IQ to understand the concept of what taxation should be and was at some point. They insist that it is either some sort of punitive device to punish success or a de facto socialist redistribution scheme. They do not understand that it should be just like any other fee for services rendered in our economy/society. A consumption tax makes perfect sense--you use it, you pay for it.

The really odd thing is that the people who are oppose Fair Tax the most are generally the ones who want to stick it to the rich the most. They don't even get that "the rich" would be paying more in most cases and that the extremely poor would be paying the least. But then, I assume very few of them have bothered actually reading the proposals and thinking them through. They simply see the label "Fair Tax" and blow a head gasket.

Dirt roads and covered bridges. We aren't going back to the 19th century.

Absent taxes, concrete and asphalt would still exist.

Even in the absence of a fair tax system, with our technology, there is absolutely ZERO reason for anyone to fill out anything at the end of the year. It could all be done real-time with no accounting at the end of the period.

The only reason for filling out "returns" is to squeeze a little extra money out of the taxpayer in the form of a "tax professional's" wages and to make the taxpayer feel important. Try making a mistake on your tax forms. You'll soon get a nasty letter from the IRS. They already know what you "should be paying." So, yeah... if they already know what is supposed to be happening, why the hell do they force you to file redundant paperwork? It was all tabulated the second you made that money.

With a fair tax system, there would be NONE of that crap at all. Any taxation is done on the spot and will never be double or triple calculated again. If nothing else, it is about ten times more efficient than the ridiculous menagerie of a tax system we have right now. No filing. No deductions. No nonsensical paperwork. No accountant's fingers in your pie. No avoiding the taxation. If you play, you pay. If you don't, you won't.

One of the lamest arguments I hear from you folks. You do know where most all of that road and bridge money comes from right?

Maybe its time for another 'Boston tea party' type of protest.

However I have a feeling if this was done in our times, majority of people would be calling for those involved to be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. LOL Thats what we have become!
