They're not useless. They can and do take out assailants. I'm just saying we can't expect or demand them to come through in every situation like take on suicide missions storming a building with a handgun against someone with a rifle.

Did you read that???
The teacher getting his gun didn't stop the murder of any student
They were dead and the shooter had left the school and was fleeing the scene
He didn't have an AR--he had a rifle...
It has no bearing to what happened at Douglas...

Not one waiting for back up. FOUR OF THEM just stood there doing nothing.

Meanwhile, an off duty policeman from the Coral Springs department heard the gunshots and started helping the wounded....while the 4 who were there, armed, on the job, did nothing.

There are things they CAN do...standing around with your thumb in your mouth is not one of them.

Oh it's coming out alright. That Sheriff is blaming anyone and everyone else, not himself. Everything about this entire incident is a disgusting mess - from the massive warning signs, to the 17 year old reciting scripted words all over the place, to the kid who said CNN would not allow him to say what he wanted to say, to this coming out that the very people who are trained to do something about it stood around for 4 of the 6 minutes of firing.

And people want to blame the NRA and guns. They want to make things harder for legal gun owners "if it just stops one person from being killed".

Too bad these hypocrites don't feel that way about illegal aliens pouring into our country who go on to kill innocent people.
There is plenty of blame to go around
And the NRA definitely has a big share of it

Yep and this certainly explains the Sheriff's weasel words at his last press conf that it didn't matter who went in first. What a lying POS..........he knew several of his deputies stood around doing nothing.

If he had any honor or decency he would resign.

Again the guy with the gun interfered with the escape after the killing was done. And it is not clear he would have prevailed if the kid had chosen to shoot it out. And note it was a lever action not a semi auto.

According to a report by CNN’s Jake Tapper, four Broward County deputies waited outside of Stoneman Douglas High School while shooter Nikolas Cruz took the lives of 17 students and staff members inside.

looks like the Department was full of cowards

The deputies had their pistols drawn and were behind their vehicles, the sources said, and not one of them had gone into the school.

The first Coral Springs office was there in shorts, off-duty, watering the baseball field
His wife teaches at Douglas and he has a son who is a student there
HE RAN to the sound of shots but had NO gun or body armor
When the other Coral Springs offices showed up he armed himself and went into the bldg with other CS police, one Broward deputy, and another couple of police from different town
The Broward county deputies were apparently not even willing to enter once other police showed up

Broward is a wealthy county with plenty of residents who are attorneys, judges, and people with clout
I think you can expect to see a house cleaning in Broward County sheriff's dept after this
And maybe in other FL sheriff's Dept's after this is investigated because it will be...
Not just the actually shooting failure of response but how the sheriff handled every one of those call outs about Cruz...
The state HHS/child welfare will get taken to task as well---as it should
But you have a state that has cut that budget to the bone and made it bleed because of the GOP's hatred of social programs and spending to support a social network...
Blame yourself if you live there and vote GOP...

Doubt it. The thing was over very quickly. Doubt they got there while the shooter was active. The SRO was but not the others.

There is a fair complaint that their failure put the wounded at risk.

Seems like the school deputy was just the democrat sheriff's scapegoat.

Not a fan of the Sheriff, but the coward(s) who stood around outside are not scapegoats. They are POS cowards who deserve none of our sympathies.
