Big corporate tigers, like Trump, care about their own interests first before anyone else's (though they might pretend otherwise). Why else would he choose to have his apparel line, for example, manufactured in China?

And, why do you suppose that Ford Motor Co has decided to absorb the tariff and have the new Fusion manufactured not ANYWHERE in North America, but in China?

Since when does it mean that a world leader needs to disrespect other leaders of other countries in order to "stand up" for himself. Since when did we abolish diplomacy altogether and just start with insults? Trump is no leader not when he is alienating and bullying all of our allies for no reason. Trump isn't standing up to Russia or North Korea our enemies. He's cowtowing to them. He isnt "standing up" where it matters with Russia and NK.

They started this COUNTRY our nation full of upstarts rank and file heroes everyday heroes who suck it up and plug along working hard and giving more.

Trump can's see the future but he is a true American, He upsets people. Oh gee. He offends Canada. To bad, He is an upstart and like those upstarts in Boston he is beginning the renewal of a once great nation.

Be rude, impertinent, and speak your mind. It's what makes us who we ARE!!**!!
This is hilarious after reading about all the outrage over DeNiro's rude comments. Seems it is okay to be rude as long as you have the same views as the person being rude.

If we take time to review the facts of the free trade issue, we can see how the Trump administration is purposely misleading Americans on the facts and using emotional attacks to try and sell the inability to successfully negotiate as the fault of the Canadians.

Ironically Trudeau is successfully looking after Canada's interest without resorting to childish antics. Might not work for Trump but Canadians are rallying behind this Canadian leader.

You mean like how George Washington "stood up for himself" Against King George III?

Show me where its written that Russia is our enemy...Last I checked, Russia still has an embassy in DC...As we do in Moscow..why would we if we were enemies?

There used to be jobs for these people. It was in a factory assembling products; but the elites sent those jobs to China and Vietnam in the name of progress.

It was mowing a lawn, but everyone in those jobs only speaks Spanish now and carries some sort of fake ID.

Get over it. Global trade impoverished America and the poor and unskilled are the first to feel it.
So you favor a more Socialist/Communist approach to government? What you are seeing is free enterprise, competition and capitalism in action. The combination of cheap computational power and the speed of communication has made this a global economy. To resist this is pretty pointless, you can't stuff this genie back in the bottle.

Interesting...

https://fpif.org/americas-hypocrisy-...-is-dangerous/

I think the kicking away the ladder aspect is key. The US wants to get away with its wrong deeds, and then wants to prevent others from doing the same things.
Germany did the same thing, they stole other nations' IP in the 19th century, but now they complain about China and others doing the same.

Regarding China (which oddly is not even in the G7), it is still a developing country. So it is only natural that it tries to progress and catch up. And, unless we are total hypocrites that in reality don't really want developing countries to turn into developed countries, I don't get why China's rise is such a problem for people in the West, especially in the US.

Some people have weird views and do weird things based on the pretext of National Security. If at least they were honest enough to use the correct terms and motives...

Trump LIED.

See my post #45: http://www.city-data.com/forum/52156291-post415.html

As I quoted in that post:

“The senior official says that before the prime minister appeared on Meet the Press a week ago, he called Trump and told him what he would say. After the appearance was over, Trudeau spoke to Trump again and told him he would keep saying it until the tariffs were lifted.

So the prime minister's comments on Saturday should not have been a surprise to anyone.”

As far as Trudeau’s specific comment that calling Canada a national security threat was an insult, why should Trump be surprised by that? It was TRUMP himself who told Trudeau a year ago that calling Canada a national security threat would be an insult. Again, see my post #45.

And to state the obvious, it shouldn’t have been a surprise that Trudeau stated that Canada was reluctantly implementing tariffs on July 1. That had also been publicly announced. Besides, you can’t exactly implement tariffs in secret.

Trudeau 's statements have been firm and consistent. The personal attacks are playing to the look aidd drinking Trump fans. It worked.

And even if it was true, it could be argued that Trudeau is just doing what is best for HIS country. You won't find Trudeau lowering the political dialogue to personal attacks though. That's for desparate, childish individuals.

Trump 's second appearance at G 7 was more of a disaster than his first and he's frustrated so he lashes out like a child

Trump is not a corporate Tiger. He's actually making moves that can hurt many corporations- or force them to move production from the US to elsewhere.

Ford is moving production for a different reason. It will not be producing the Fusion in the US because it is abandoning the sedan market in the US. The only true passenger car it will sell is the Mustang. All other vehicles will be trucks, light trucks, SUVs and crossover SUVs.
