50 cities Americans are abandoning

The 50 cities where the most people are moving away from can primarily be found in the Northeast, Midwest, and West Coast, particularly in states like Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, and New York. Among the cities where people are leaving in droves are places such as Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis, New York, and Los Angeles.

Tax them to death and take their liberties... and you think they are going to stick around.

We've succeeded in making those cities permanently blue. Now we're moving south to conquer the rest of the country.

Better watch out, BB, we're coming for you!

Not exactly a resume enhancement for Team Blue.

They are fleeing because they are unhappy.

They come to a place that is more tolerable for their living conditions and they want to turn that into a place similar to what they just left. That doesn't make sense to me.

People get what they deserve at that point.

This is why you guys need liberals to interpret data for you guys. It's painfully obviously that logic and higher thinking is not the Right's thing.

Residents are leaving blue states... for other blue cities!!!

The top ten cities for Californians leaving for are: Seattle, NYC, Austin, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Dallas, etc. All very blue.

Here's where Californians are moving to, according to new report

You really think liberals are going to move to places like rural Arkansas?? Please.

If anything, the infiltration from people fleeing red states to blue states is part of what's driving up housing and creating our homelessness.

You don't know that. The huge baby boomer population is retiring now, and retirees have been flocking south for a few generations now. This is a huge demographic, though, so it's much more noticeable than it has been in the past.

Red states are turning more purple as a result of this massive population shift. Blue won't be far behind.

I saw that one too and even did some statistical snooping on the population data from the Texas A&M Real Estate Center Population figures.

That list is based on Net Migration (foreign and domestic combined) based on 2010-17 growth rates. By that standard, these liberal areas are growing. Oh, since you said St. Louis (a blue city in a pretty firmly red state), I'll include the them as well.

San Francisco-Oakland-Hayward +230,286
Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue +266,350
Portland-Vancouver-Hillsboro OR-WA +145,381
Las Vegas-Henderson, NV +166,153
Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford +291,358
Austin-Round Rock +273,662
Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill +179297

(The last two metros have a lot in common: state capitals, high tech centers, house the state's flagship universities, roughly similar climates (humid subtropical), and both are EASILY the most progressive areas in otherwise conservative states).

As for Dallas and Houston, well, those areas simply aren't the conservative bastions they used to be any more. Granted the suburbs are still conservative but here in the Dallas area, even "it" suburban county to live in (Collin) shows a steady decrease in Republican support. Similar story with Houston. In fact, my own US congressional district is now a newly-designated swing district. The Dems didn't even bother to field a candidate here in 2016, yet the 10-term Republican incumbent only got 70%? The Libertarian and even the Green Party candidate broke into teens in that election!! Plus, Clinton won this district by..I forgot if it was by 1 or 5%, but she certainly won it. This should have been a shoo-in for any half-way strong Republican presidential candidate - yet Trump couldn't even crack 50 this time? You tell me what happened here!

Also Atlanta's home to Delta Airlines, which IIRC revoked some privilege of NRA membership, plus it's one of the major GLBT centers of the nation (certainly in the top 5). Sure doesn't sound like a conservative place to me.

So it is that even within the Red States, the greatest growth is happening in its least conservative areas.

Even those that DO move to rural (or at least small city) Arkansas are moving to the Fayetteville-Bentonville area (extreme NW corner of the state) -- by far the state's most liberal area. BTW, about 50 miles to the NE, just seven miles from the Missouri line, is Eureka Springs - one of, if not THE, most liberal small town in Middle America in general. My brother and his wife took a honeymoon up there and he complained about it being full of "freaks" (a term I know you love to use, BB). Yet, NW Arkansas seems to be doing just fine despite it being the least conservative area of the state.

I know it... and you know it. You are on here enough to know the problems in CA, IL, and NY.

You are not fooling anyone but yourself.

So there is no such thing as retirees moving south? And baby boomers aren't the largest population to retire ever?

Hmm...so facts are not a part of your reality. Good to know.
