Depends on the type of BI conducted, the type depends on the clearance level granted.
I can tell you for the Secret Service, they do and will look into any claims about something like alcoholism, along with financial issues, though all legal, and it can and does prevent people from getting clearance, thus employment. This BI goes all the way back to kindergarten.
For my TS/SCI, they also will deny clearance based on things like alcoholism and financial issues, though all legal.
I do not know what level of clearance Kavanaugh has, do not know what type of BI regardless of clearance, if any he has had for his positions and this position.

So yeah, his life was put under a microscope to get his clearance. Those Democrat Senators knew this - especially the ones there for a long time. Further evidence this was nothing but politics for them. But hey, they only destroyed a man’s reputation which they seem to have no remorse over. So damn dirty!
Absolutely on this. Also as many stated in the other thread I believe that the Dems will want more investigations and will try to pull people out of the woodwork. I also believe that no matter who the nominee is this same witch hunt would take place as it’s killing time that’s the true goal here.

I think they know her accusation is bunk. That’s why they waited last minute, used the media to create a frenzy, and didn’t address this in closed hearings earlier in the process when they had the letter. They knew this wouldn’t hold up,and only wanted a reason to cause delay which is why every single one of them asked for that delay. Every single one. And along comes the ambling idiot Jeff Flake who was bamboozled by his good friend Coons to deliver for them.

Has zero to do with Ford, I could not care less about this incident as it was a long, long time ago and Kavanaugh himself was not arrested (funny that one).

I watch all of the Senate Hearings -- I wonder if this is about the room-mate that the Democrats kept trying to ask about. In each case, Judge Kavanaugh said he didn't think it was an appropriate setting in an open hearing to discuss this person -- BUT that he had given a statement to the Justice Investigators that was available for them to see.
At the time - I thought to myself - "well done, you didn't bring a person's college antics into the public"
Clearly the Democrats thought they really had something juicy -- I guess that will all become public now.
