Pueblos sin Fronteras said the migrants left Honduras on October 13. If they've made it to Arriaga, Chiapas, they have covered about 566 miles, which is about 40 miles a day.
USA today reports that the migrants may be headed to the border city of Tijuana, which is more than 1,800 miles from their current location. (((Why would they go all the way to Tijuana?)))
They also reported that the caravan is still "more than 1,000 miles – or about two weeks – from the nearest United States border." (((Huh? That's twice as fast as they are currently moving))))
The method by which they selected the inmates in their study would guarantee that they would have a lot of repeat offenders; the results would likely be the same if you studied non immigrants who were serving time for serious offenses. In their 2011 they expanded on the 2005 report and added some clarification:
Downplay it all you want - we should be looking for people to enter the country who can support themselves and contribute. Not a group where 49% have been convicted of a felony or those looking for handouts and social programs.

Sorry but there is vast evidence that the illegal aliens commit crimes at levels well below their native equivalents. So you remove the illegal aliens crime rates go up which means the probability any remaining person will be a victim increases.

Stop comparing the crimes committed by our citizens to the crimes committed by illegal aliens. It's not relevant.
If millions of people who hated Jews decided to move to America would you be okay with that just because there are plenty of citizens who are antisemitic?

Of course it is. Where I live we have about the highest percentage of illegal aliens of any city in the US. I see no reason why we want our crime rates to increase.
The reason to legalize most of the illegal alien population is because we have no practical choice. Either legalize or risk having it get much worse.

What does legalizing the current illegal alien population have to do with this caravan? Nobody here is discussing the illegals already here other than to give good reason why we don't want more.

If we had a couple of hundred thousand illegals the caravan would be no problem. If the caravan hit we simply would pick them up and determine their outcome and execute. The only reason they are any sort of challenge is that if they get into the country they will likely end up staying...and that is because of the 11 million.
I wouldn't want to stop in Mexico. They've got a bit of a cartel problem that isn't much different from what they're fleeing in the first place...
What are they fleeing from in the first place?

An Example From Honduras.
...As part of this process, the Honduran government passed a law in 2013 that created autonomous free-trade zones that are governed by corporations instead of the countries in which they exist. So what was the outcome? Writer Edwin Lyngar described vacationing in Honduras in 2015, an experience that turned him from Ayn Rand supporter to Ayn Rand debunker. In his words:
Quote:
The greatest examples of libertarianism in action are the hundreds of men, women and children standing alongside the roads all over Honduras. The government won't fix the roads, so these desperate entrepreneurs fill in potholes with shovels of dirt or debris. They then stand next to the filled-in pothole soliciting tips from grateful motorists. That is the wet dream of libertarian private sector innovation.
He described the living conditions this way:
Quote:
On the mainland, there are two kinds of neighborhoods, slums that seem to go on forever and middle-class neighborhoods where every house is its own citadel. In San Pedro Sula, most houses are surrounded by high stone walls topped with either concertina wire or electric fence at the top. As I strolled past these castle-like fortifications, all I could think about was how great this city would be during a zombie apocalypse...
