I think some people fail to see the reality of that.
Some people are detached from reality.
I think it’s very, very smart of Mueller to ask for zero time for Flynn. He’s trying to entice the others but hey, you can’t fix stupid. Trump surrounded himself with a bunch of mindless hacks.
NBC News: There appears, although the redacted documents do not make it completely clear, that there is a separate criminal investigation going on outside of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's purview for which Flynn has been providing significant assistance.

Those who assert that Flynn managed to escape any serious punishment, ought to take into consideration, that even if Flynn is never incarcerated, and for the sake of argument pays $0 in fines, and isn't sentenced even to community-service, well, even then, he'll have a federal felony record for the rest of his life. To a professional, especially one used to government service, being saddled with such a record is far more grievous than spending months (or even years) in prison.

My speculation - and it's only speculation - is that the perpetrator can easily get carried away. Even if the subject-matter is legitimate and lawful, it just feels unseemly and uncouth to reveal the matter fully. Then, one feels it to be incumbent to stay consistent. Eventually one backs oneself into an outright lie, and it feels perfectly natural to keep lying.

That's entirely possible. There could be a vast bevy of crimes of which Flynn is allegedly guilty, but Mueller's lenience - in exchange for Flynn's cooperation - bargained the charges down to just one. In which case, yes, presumably other persons may have serious problems, owing in part to information that Flynn provided.
But it could just mean that Mueller is satisfied, that Flynn’s putative crime doesn’t merit incarceration. A consideration of sentencing is the magnitude of adverse impact caused by the false statement in question. If the adverse impact is regarded as being small, then the punishment is “small”. Is the adverse impact here "small"? Maybe, maybe not.

18 USC 1001 can be used as catch-all (or if you will, trawling) to secure a conviction, when there are other alleged criminal acts, but said acts are hard to prove, or only amount to a misdemeanor. "Making a false statement" is a technical offense. There need not be victims or underlying malevolence. All that has to be proven is intent to deceive. Case-law seems to show that the prosecution doesn't have to prove intent to cause outright harm... just intent to willfully and knowingly make a false statement.
Vox.com 4 takeaways from Mueller’s sentencing memo for Michael Flynn
First off, Mueller is quite happy with Flynn’s cooperation — happy enough to recommend that he serve no prison time. (This is a notable contrast to the positively scathing memo Mueller’s team wrote about George Papadopoulos, in which they said he did not provide “substantial assistance” and complained that he talked to the press.) read the rest here...…... 4 takeaways from Mueller

There are very few sites that I won't click on, but Vox is one of them. Not giving them a dime. Can anyone sum up what these four take-away points are?
