They should not be illegal, but they should not have any special legal status or protections. And no one should be required to join one.

No, unions are just an exercise of free association. However unions should not be able to use coercion on ownership. If a union strikes, its members are subject to termination. Unions also shouldnt be able to force contracts, pay or membership agreements on those who dont wish to join or against the express wishes of ownership.
You dont get special privledges or protections because you become part of a group

i agree with this, public sector unions should be abolished forever. private sector unions however should be free to created. the only thing is that i would make it illegal to force people to join a union.

Unions illegal? Absolutely not.

The decision not to join should not be a bar from employment with the company though.

In other words, no closed shops. Those who choose not to join simply do not receive union representation in times of need and are not beneficiaries to pre-negotiated union agreements that are designated to union dues paying employees.

No.

However, unions need to evolve with the times.

Stop having public votes for intimidation.

Have recertification votes (to keep the union) more than every ~25 or more years.

Stop wasting dues money on overtly political-non-educational issues (ie Michigan teacher's union donating to abortion causes)

Stop having health insurance companies owned by the union that are awarded a monopoly that then rip off the employer (often the government)

Etc...
