That's because you don't understand the definitions.

Socialism and Communism are Property Theories, like Capitalism, which argue who is best to control Capital. The two current competing economic systems are the Free Market and Command systems.

Capitalism paired with the Free Market is best, but Socialism is also paired with the Free Market, and the United Kingdom was an example of that.

You can pair Communism with the Free Market, but it has never been attempted.

Socialism and Command Economies are often paired, while Communism has never been attempted at the State level.

Capitalism states that individual control of Capital is best, because individuals are more responsive to the needs of the Market.

A real world example is organic foods. The Market demanded organic foods, and Capitalists immediately diverted Capital to the production of organic foods.

That would never happen in a Socialist State.

As the US Department of Agriculture noted, if you grew organic wheat only, you would need an additional 109 Million acres of cropland to grow organic wheat.

As it stands, you do have it. Ohio has 35 Million acres of fallow farmland sitting idle and between Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Missouri you have nearly 150 Million acres. You have nearly 750 Million acres of idle farmland across the entire US.

But, a Socialist State would never spend the money and divert the resources necessary to use that land.

The Soviet Union is a classic example. The Soviets refused to grow tomatoes. Tomatoes have a short shelf-life, are easily damaged, difficult to transport, difficult to store, and are subject to climate, insects and disease, not to mention they fetch very little profit on the global market.

Wheat, on the other hand, has a long shelf-life, is easy to transport and store, plus it generates a large profit on the global market.

The Soviet people had a very restricted diet and cuisine, because the government only grew crops it could sell on the global market for a high price, and refused to import crops.

Yeah, the Soviets imported pineapples for members of the Communist Party, but if you weren't a party-member, then you did without.

The rest of the world is using audio cassettes, digital audio tapes (the short-lived DAT) and compact discs, while the Soviets are still producing records, because they wouldn't spend the money or divert Capital to the production of high-tech consumer audio.

The Actor in Socialism isn't always the government. It can be a non-governmental organization like a union, trade group, trade association or cartel.

One reason your medical costs are so high is because of Socialism via a trade association, the American Hospital Association, which controls 80% of your hospitals.

An HOA is neither Communist nor Socialist, since property owners own the land, but an HOA is analogous to the command group in a Command Economic System.

Again, the command group doesn't have to be a government or governmental body, it can be a non-governmental organization like a union, trade group, trade association or cartel.

So, an HOA is like a command group that dictates the use of goods, services and resources largely through pricing and regulations.

I agree. How convenient that the OP did not offer a "neither" option in the poll.

HOAs exist because homeowners would like to see their property maintain it's value. If you don't like HOAs, don't live in a coveted neighborhood.

Why do people around here try so hard? HOAs communist or socialist? REALLY?

It just looks trashy; that's what the garage is for.
I do a lot of woodworking in my garage...… sometimes have the door open all day .

I think HOAs go against individualism and freedom and all about faceless comformity. So many new neighborhoods are all about this in general as well which is why I can't wait to have my new home built out in a rural area where I can shoot guns on my property, have bonfires, and have a sign that says "Beware of Owner" and Confederate flags without anyone complaining about it or forcing me to take them down.

At the very least they're elitist and anti freedom of speech. There are HOAs who have asked people to take down tea party flags because people were offended not to mention Confederate flags. If you live in a neighborhood without a HOA nobody can legally tell you to remove a tea party or Confederate flag. Or those signs that say "illegal immigrants are not tolerated here" or "trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot twice" or "nothing in here is worth dying for" with a picture of a gun and crosshairs. I think I'm too individualistic to live in a HOA.

And also, what's wrong with working on your car in the driveway, or having a car parked on grass. When I lived in rural West Virginia this happened all the time and we regularly had bonfires on friends properties and shot guns outdoors and nobody ever complains. Never got this elitism.

That's fine. Then don't move to a neighborhood with an HOA. Your CHOICE.

Houses in HOAs are not "coveted". They are a dime a dozen. In decent areas property maintains and increases in value regardless.

Nobody wants to live in a HOA if they can help it.

I don't live in an HOA neighborhood, I would never want to.

But i understand why some people might want to.

Exactly, property values are determined by location. Many areas of Miami have high, very high property values yet no HOA of any kind, some of the wealthiest areas here have no HOA. We got vacant, 10 thousand square feet lots going for over a million. A run down dump going for near a million due to its location.
