He is correct. You really don't understand its not reliable as a source of power because its not like there is constant wind.
If you could only use electricity when the wind is blowing near your local power utility's windfarm, you don't see how that would be a problem for consumers?
The problem with wind, is that even if you built enough wind turbines to power the whole country when the wind was actually blowing, you would still require something else as a backup for when the wind wasn't blowing.
A large percentage of the cost of electricity is not from the fuel for a powerplant, but building the powerplant. Nuclear power is practically free, but the plant costs billions of dollars to build and maintain.
So wind and solar cannot replace other forms of energy. And because they require redundant systems as backups, they will always drive up energy prices overall. But they do reduce total emissions by offsetting the need to burn fossil fuels when the wind is blowing.
