Want to have a ginormous 100m (300ft) hub height you get a lot more possibles but you still need 6 m/sec windspeed. Good luck finding any good sighting spots and tying into a mains/backbone grid (can't tie into local lines for such a size turbine since the operator needs to switch to coal or fossil power when your production drops off.) Good luck.

ridiculously-big-and-tall-turbines-could-bring-wind-energy-to southeast. Look at the pic of that Indian turbine. Enjoy the fun that will bring.

They're nothing but fodder now for "orange man bad".
Are you in the wrong thread?

The problem with wind, is that even if you built enough wind turbines to power the whole country when the wind was actually blowing, you would still require something else as a backup for when the wind wasn't blowing.

A large percentage of the cost of electricity is not from the fuel for a powerplant, but building the powerplant. Nuclear power is practically free, but the plant costs billions of dollars to build and maintain.

So wind and solar cannot replace other forms of energy. And because they require redundant systems as backups, they will always drive up energy prices overall. But they do reduce total emissions by offsetting the need to burn fossil fuels when the wind is blowing.
Wind power and solar power create energy and store energy. The idea is the stored energy part. No one ever believes that there will be constant wind blowing or the sun shine everyday. But the idea is that the energy is generated when they do and we use that energy to live our lives. Is this that hard to understand?

Trump is like that old, drunk uncle who spouts "facts" he made up and who will not listen to the truth.

I think that the reasonable approach to using alternate forms of energy is realizing that while one may not be the catch all solution...in combination they could work to improve the efficient use of our resources.

Flat out refusal to consider all the complexities of new technologies is just ignorance.

As I said before - I'm sure there was great resistance to moving to them automobiles from horse and carriages......but look where we are today kids.

So long as its done in a free market and consumers are choosing. No govt subsidies or mandates for any energy choice.

Yes in an ideal world, the govt shouldn't be offering businesses any financial incentives like tax cuts, tax credits to their consumers etc.....

This would be another goal to works towards.

But until then -- if the govt. is offering up tax credits to businesses and their consumers in other areas, there is no reason new technologies should be left out of the loop because of ignorance.
