Yes, it is a OPINION piece by a Trump supporter. However, kudos to CNN for publishing it. This is the first President to stop to trade deficit BLEEDING with China who has been taking advantage of us for decades. They only understand tough negotiations and ultimatums with someone who won't back down. They have stolen our technology, abused our markets, and engaged in unfair, criminal trade practices. It has helped to destroy American manufacturing.
Yet, you support the oligarchs who are the culprits. Trump supporters claim America is bleeding and manufacturing is destroyed, and then turn around and say the economy is amazing and manufacturing is booming. The end result of your support for the super rich and Wall Street who have destroyed labor unions and flooded the political system with bribe money is even more inequality and despair for the working class.
The economy is getting weaker by the China distraction which has nothing to do with protecting you and everything to do with Trump feeling powerful. Trump advocates manufacturing to move to countries with far worse labor rights and technology protection than China.
Even Trump is preparing his supporters for more pain and suffering as he escalates the trade war.

I think your scorn is misplaced. For years, US manufacturing salivated over the prospect of lower labor costs, and higher shareholder value.... they willing gave the Chinese the keys to the palace. They either gave the Chinese the technology to replicate their products as part of the deal to locate their manufacturing in China or the turned their back while the Chinese reverse engineered their product, and set up their own plant next door. Don't fault the Chinese for outsmarting the money hungry US outsourcing manufacturers....place the blame where it belongs...those corporate American's who chose to outsource in the chase for maximum profit.....at the expense of blue collar America.

Stop looking a only the SHORT TERM. The Asians think on a long term basis. If they think Trump may cave, they can afford to wait him out, and they will. Trump needs to look half crazed about fighting these criminals or they won't budge.

I don't know why you Trump Humpers hate CNN so much. Every time I tune in, they've got some obsequious Trump boot licker like Rick Santorum, Steve Cortez, or "The Mooch" (until that worm recently turned bigly). MSNBC is much more openly contemptuous of Dear Leader, yet I don't see threads hating on them started on here daily.
The True Believers simply parrot their Dear Leader. He hates CNN - therefore, they hate CNN. Meanwhile MSBNC roasts him on a daily basis and there is no pretense of inviting on some Trump bootlicker.
Yet Trump makes no mention; so the lemmings don't either. Perhaps because the Apprentice aired on NBC?

'The Asians" are thinking much more long term than Trump. Xi is president for LIFE so, yes, he can most certainly 'wait Trump out". He doesn't face reelection in a year. Add to that - he doesn't give one crap about his people. He will wait forever. Trump is already caving.
This administration has never verbalized - exactly what does winning look like to them?
IF we still had allies and had enlisted them in this endeavor - MAYBE we would have held the winning hand. But Trump was too intent on antagonizing our allies and kissing up to Putin and Kim instead.
Trump already caved on Huawei and is behaving like a lunatic, imposing then pulling back on tariffs.
Xi is not going to cave to Trump. That's ridiculous on the face of it.
Xi is president for life and it is unlikely that people who put up with forced abortions for the good of the nation are going to get upset over tightening their economic belt.
While Republicans sit on their thumbs, US economy is taking a serious hit and Russia is supply soybeans to China.
